5A Playoff Question

Featured Replies

The obvious statement in 5A this year is that Bowling Green should win state again. My question is very simple:

Are there any teams that can beat Bowling Green or are these playoffs basically pointless?

I know that on any given night anything can happen, but LIST AND EXPLAIN if you think a team has a shot at an upset.

I think the only teams that have shot at BG would be Central, Southwestern/Pulaski winner.

Anything can happen any any team can have a bad night. Whoever beats BG would have to score 4 TDS to do so (unlikely) and would have to hold BG under 21 (unlikely).

I seem to agree with your assessment. Question to any BG fan, has BG played a team with a very strong run game to control the clock and keep BG's O off the field? I feel like that may be one of the only options forteams to have a chance

McCallie is a strong run team and Owensboro doesn't know what the forward pass is.

I would say:

Warren Central

Southwestern

Pulaski

Mad. Southern w/ Harris

All could beat BG on the right night...and there is the unknown of Region 2 who would host BG if they got to the 4th round. This BG team is not a lights-out favorite to just walk through the playoffs. JMO

The only team with a shot at beating the Purples would be Southwestern. They just shut out Pulaski County and we have no idea what they have. Teams like Southwestern scare me. They look like they are playing their best ball at the right time. I think Bowling Green's team speed is better than anyone in 5A and they expect to win. Can't teach that.

If there is a year for the Purples to lose this would be the year. Obviously they are not as good as there previous 2 years but they are still very talented and have that swagger about themselves. It would be nice to see someone else hoist the gold trophy

Mad South would'nt beat BG with 2 Harris', even as good as he is. They just aren't on the same level as BG team wise.

If Pulaski gets there QB back they will be a tough out.

Diasgree. He'll still be hurt. No way he'll be 100% and he'd likely be lucky to not re-injure it before they got to the state finals.

IMO the only team that has a chance to beat BG is BG. They are capable of defeating themselves. I don't think anyone in 5A will be good enough to beat BG as long as BG comes to play every night. Warren Central may be the closest.

If a team is playing at their best, no one is better than BG's best. 100% certain of that.

I do not think they are as overwhelmingly talented as they were last year or in 2011 so if they were off their game and another team played their best, then I could see them falling. You could see that the other night as Greenwood was far closer than they had any right to be.

Was that a trap game/letdown game for BG after the Central game? I'm guessing it's hard to get up for the Greenwood game. Has Greenwood ever beaten BG? I'm thinking no but I know you know for sure.

Pride, BG is 22 and 0 against Greenwood all-time. Kinda hard getting up for them after Central and before Pulaski. But you have to give Greenwood credit for playing at BG and playing very hard the whole game. Others said GW's D was vast improved and I think they are. One of those games you don't have your best effort and you survive and advance!
