Ryle 56 Highlands 33 (Frosh)

Featured Replies

I don't disagree. Each game tells a different story.

Me personally, I'd rather see folks own it than denying it. BG was accused of running up the score against Logan County and the score was 91-something. Lopsided games happen. I don't have a problem with anything done within the rules in any game. If a team wants to kick onside kicks when up 30 points I am cool with that. Just don't get mad when the favor is returned. I'm not saying that is what happened here because I wasn't there and didn't see it. I do understand why it was done(if it was done) and even though I agree that each game tells a different story it is hard to escape the thought process of the score being run up when looking at some of those Highlands scores.

I too have no issue with lopsided games and could careless if Ryle's freshman would have scored 100. I'm in the same vain as some others...if you don't like it, get better! I believe that 100%. What gets old are people that have no idea (other than looking at past scores and jumping on the BGP bandwagon) acting like they know what the heck they are talking about. Probably hasn't seen one of those games he mentions. Looks at the score and says "yep, hhs running it up again!". That's clueless to me.

We could really attack Ryle if we wanted to, but I haven't seen them play in years. So I don't say a word about them. I know they are having their issues, but still hope they are on the upswing. But the "running it up" thing just really gets under my skin because of what I have seen over the last 3-4 years is the exact opposite and you can even hear that in messages from opposing coaches.

He posted his facts in post 32.

Really not sure those are facts. He is stating that Highlands ran up the score based on On sides kicks, throwing the ball up more than I'm guessing 35 points. Didn't we go into detail from everyone's perspective in the past that anything scored in the 1st half of football was fair game. Kind of the rule of thumb I use.....:idunno: Most of those points against those teams were scored in the 1st half. I would almost bet the house that Fear the Nation couldn't count on 1 hand(That's 5 times right?) that Highlands did any running up the score outside the 1st half in the last 10 years while Dale was coach. If he did then I will be the 1st one to say I'm wrong. Dale pulled off some not so great things back in the late 90's and early 2000's and received some really negative criticism from the Home camp including myself. I think it really hit home when Chucky ran a fake punt up 45 against Mueller in the 03 Finals. Did Dale Cry about it?....No! He coached his kids up the next year and beat Boyle twice. The scores that F-T-N posted aren't indicative at all of running any score up. You didn't see Dave Buchanan from Mason Co. crying that Dale ran the score up on him. He simply said, we have to get better. I'm Moving along.....What a joke!

Oh, I've committed the cardinal sin. My bad. Iv'e spoke up againts the Almighty Highlands about being hypocritical on BGP. I'm sorry sir. I'll never do it again, please don't take me to the wood shed. I feel bad enough about myself without all the insults. Please no more. You're always right. Some one in an earlier post said it was classless that the onside kicks happened. I'm simply conveying the fact that maybe I or other people think 70-0 is classless, no matter who scores the points? It's not about how or who. It's about you can do it, but others can't to you. For the record I have not called anyone names or insulted your program. You did that. I'm done.

I don't think people truly understand how powerful and quickly those HHS teams could score. I remember a game, I'm thinking CCH, where it was 21-0 a couple minutes into the game and our offense had run 1 play. I spent many games feeling bad for the opponents.

I know I did....If you were late you would miss 3-4 scores in the 1st couple minutes. Those are actually facts. Not speculation!

Closer to 9 or 10 years RCC9.

I know, but I only speak on what I've seen and I've only been back "watching" for 3-4. I either speak on what I see or what I know to be fact.

Me too...actually would find myself rooting for them!

Perfect example...last year's WC game. Felt horrible the team came that far and was getting drummed that bad...Well that one almost back fired on me and I have stopped rooting so hard for the under dogs!

So that's not actually true GGCLFAN, Highlands has continued the practice of embarrassing other teams. I didn't feel the need to go back any further.

Fearthenation,

I have no problem with Ryle scoring and onside kick. I think the bigger issue is coach leaving starting unit out there for whole game. Ryle had 50 kids on sideline yet only 20-25 saw action. HHS coaches are playing all their guys. I believe most of HHS see what is building for their future. See how many kids you have returning in next year.

Had one son on 2011-13 teams that you pulled scores up. Varsity seldom played passed running clock. How do you tell JV players to take a knee in 2nd half. Kids all practice and put their time in. By the way 9 of scores you posted were against 4A teams that Birds had to play.

Wish Raiders all the luck for this year and their future. Birds look forward to playing you next year.

Wasn't at the game, but if this happened, is this why Ryle has difficulty translating good Freshman teams into good varsity teams? It's been said many times on here that part of HHS's success is developing all the players from a very young age...starting in the jr football league. This creates depth and interest for more kids as they grow older. Many boys develop late and if you keep them involved, they can contribute when they need to. If you isolate kids, they quit. Maybe that's also the reason HHS carries 80-100 kids over the years and much larger schools are lucky to keep 50.

Not knocking Ryle or the way the freshman teams operates, but this is a telling item if it's true. And for the record, I don't think that only relates to Ryle. I think a lot of schools fall into the same trap.

I never said I had a problem with the scores. I just said it goes both ways. SOME people had a problem with that. I think you give lumps and sometimes you get lumps. That's fair that's how the game is played. It is competition. At some point you do show mercy but this isn't basketball where you can tell your kids no more layups to keep the score down. In football you go hard or get hurt. That's the nature of the beast. Good luck to Highland in the playoffs this year. I know that the Ryle kids are looking forward to renewing the series with you guys, see you next year.

I agree some of those scores look bad. It does go to the argument of what is a coach supposed to do when his JV team is scoring at will against another team's starters? I don't know what the answer is. My rule of thumb is as follows: The starters get to play the first half in an extreme blowout. They should at least get to play that much because they practice hard all week and deserve at least a half as a reward. When the second and third teamers come in, I would run a more conservative offense but I do think those guys should at least get to PLAY - not take a knee. Now I would definitely not try an onsides kick or throw long passes.

I would like to see what the halftime scores were of the games you listed. I don't think HHS did much scoring at all in the second halves of those games and if so, it was done by back-ups. I do stand by my comments that Dale definitely changed his attitude toward taking the pedal off some years back.

I also don't think Ryle scoring 56 against HHS is a big deal at all. HHS should use it as motivation to get better.
