Montgomery Co against Bishop Brossart (Predictions)

Featured Replies

I am throwing my support behind the mighgty MUSTANGS... Go NKY....

From what I've read Mo. Co. Can put the ball in the back of the net, I just question their strength of schedule. Statistically, Brossart has the best defense in the state and with that 9-nil win to start off the tourny, I predict that hype will carry the Mustangs to the regional finals.

Should be a good match, the Maher Rankings would suggest this one is a toss up.

Mustang support. NKY!!

From KHSAA website:

TOP 15 TEAM DEFENSE LEADERS

(playing a minimum of 15 games)

(ranked by goals allowed per game)

School Gms GA Avg

Lou. Trinity 20 10 0.5

Bishop Brossart 21 12 0.6

Bowling Green 19 11 0.6

DuPont Manual 18 12 0.7

Hopkinsville 23 18 0.8

St. Xavier 23 19 0.8

Daviess County 23 19 0.8

South Oldham 21 16 0.8

Scott 19 15 0.8

Montgomery County 22 20 0.9

Mercer County 19 18 0.9

John Hardin 24 23 1.0

Newport Cent. Cath 22 23 1.0

Elizabethtown 22 22 1.0

West Jessamine 22 23 1.0

Brossart's in good company... 6 out of the top 10 defenses (ranked by KHSAA) are also in the top 10 Maher rankings. Correlation is not causation, but in this case I guarantee its a contributing factor.

Montgomery Co's goals per game has been influenced by some 10-0 wins against very weak competition. They have also played some of the better teams in the state, but those weaker games have really brought down their strength of schedule so it is probably a little better than the numbers might indicate.

I would guess scoring margin is a factor in the Maher ratings, which would mean that these scoring numbers do have a direct influence on their ratings.

Both of these teams fall into that top 10 scoring defenses category.

Go 'Stangs! I wanna see BBHS and Scott play with the region crown on the line.

Yes they are in good company. Not taking anything away from those who have good numbers but I think you also have to keep in mind that not every school is reporting their stats. I say this because I noticed that Cooper is not on the list this week.

Rez, I was told that it is.

Wins is first and foremost, I think margin of victory is second in the calculation.

The unstoppable force meets the immovable object ...

MoCo comes in scoring over 100 goals, while the BB defense has only allowed 12. However, I think we might be able to throw some of the numbers out. 40 of MoCo goals were in mercy games; 29 other goals against teams with a combined 20-45-6 record.

BB had several shutouts against less than stellar squads. However, they had some really good shutouts. 12 goals allowed by BB is really good. 4 of those were to Scott (one on PK), an exceptional team. It was reported that the goal against Highlands was an own goal, and a PK against St Henry. Throw those out .. 6 goals in the remaining 17 games (0.35/game) .. wow.

I look at two games on MoCo schedule .. beat Campbell Co 4-2, beat Harrison Co 9-2. Those are teams BB dispatched rather easily. If those two can score 2 goals each against MoCo, I'll take BB in a hard-fought 3-1 win.

Go Montgomery County, for multiple reasons.
