Montgomery Co against Bishop Brossart (Predictions)

The unstoppable force meets the immovable object ...

MoCo comes in scoring over 100 goals, while the BB defense has only allowed 12. However, I think we might be able to throw some of the numbers out. 40 of MoCo goals were in mercy games; 29 other goals against teams with a combined 20-45-6 record.

BB had several shutouts against less than stellar squads. However, they had some really good shutouts. 12 goals allowed by BB is really good. 4 of those were to Scott (one on PK), an exceptional team. It was reported that the goal against Highlands was an own goal, and a PK against St Henry. Throw those out .. 6 goals in the remaining 17 games (0.35/game) .. wow.

I look at two games on MoCo schedule .. beat Campbell Co 4-2, beat Harrison Co 9-2. Those are teams BB dispatched rather easily. If those two can score 2 goals each against MoCo, I'll take BB in a hard-fought 3-1 win.

I think it's a stretch to look at a 9-2 win and think it is significant that they gave up two goals without knowing more about the situation. I would guess reserves were getting a lot of time in that game. Also, in the win over Campbell Co I'm fairly certain the second goal came late, right after a mass substitution by the Indians that I believe included bringing in a back-up goalie (Campbell's first goal did come against the regulars).

In fact, according to the KHSAA Website, 25% of the goals given up were allowed by a back-up goalie.

You could also compare the Highlands, Boyd Co and Scott Co games.

Montgomery won all 3 by scores of 3-1, 2-0 and 2-1

Brossard tied, lost, and won by scores of 1-1, 0-1, 3-1

All that to say, in the same way that some of Montgomery Co's scoring numbers don't tell the whole story, their defensive numbers might not either, but in the other direction.
