With Damien Harris injured is Elijah Sindelar a lock for Mr. Football?

Featured Replies

It sure seems that way. That's the name I keep hearing now that it looks like injury has all but ended Damien Harris' chances to win Mr. Football.

I saw Elijah Sindelar's numbers at 2549 yards, 35 touchdowns and 3 interceptions on 145-209 passing(69%) which equals to 319 yards passing and 4.4 passing touchdowns per game.

His team, Caldwell County, is currently undefeated and arguably the #1 team in 2A.

He's my choice. Are there any other candidates out there and is there anything Damien Harris can do to get his award back?

Yeah the injury gave it to him

Harris would have to come back and play at the level he was playing at before he was hurt and lead Mad South on a deep playoff run (at least semi-state) to have a chance at this point. Which I don't think Mad South can even make the playoffs without winning this week and if Harris isn't playing I don't know if they win.

But name recognition goes a long way. Kyle Bolin was still named to every all-state team and the BGP team his senior year after tearing his ACL during his 7th game over some players who played twice as many games as him. Damien Harris might be the biggest name in state since Tim Couch.

IMO Sindelar is a big enough name himself to avoid this however.

If Harris comes back it is still his to lose.

No offense to Sindelair who is an awesome player and IMHO more deserving since he played a complete season... but the voters are going to go with the 5* prospect considering Kentucky.

Harris was "injured" against Southwestern. However, he was "hurt" in previous games where he sat out. I'm a big advocate that there is a difference in being hurt and being injured. You can play hurt. He sat out most of the South Laurel game and I believe most of the Whitley County game as well. Someone closer to the program could probably confirm that. Sindelar deserves it regardless.

He ran for 353 yards in the South Laurel game and if I am not mistaken he returned a kickoff for the game winning touchdown.

I believe he injured his knee against Southwestern and had 12 carries for 142 yards before leaving the game never to return. He hasn't played since.

IMO that will cost him Mr. Football. If he was still playing and putting up the numbers he was putting up before he got injured then there is no doubt in my mind he would win it.

If he comes back and puts up the same numbers he was putting up beforehand I think it will be interesting to see what happens. Didn't missing a few games cost Austin Collinsworth Mr. Football?

Sindelar has my vote. :lol2:

Mine too.

I realize how lucky I have to get to watch the young man spin his magic every week. Great QB, even better person.

Even if Harris comes back but loses in the Regional final and if Caldwell were to go all the way and Sindelar were to have a big Final game, I think he could steal it. KY loves a story like that.

Very true. Antonio Andrews comes to mind.

Do they turn in the Mr. Football ballots before the final game or after it? Seems like it changes every year.

Harris was actually hurt on the final kickoff against south laurel. Harris left the game and came back in for the final play from the 2 or 3 yard line. Harris ran it in for game winning td from there. Harris left the south laurel game several times hurt.

That is a heart warming story and all... but it still doesn't add up to the 5* UK Recruit touted as a once in a generation player.

Once again I am on the Sindelair bandwagon...especially if Harris misses 2 or 3 more games.... but let's call it what it is..the small school kid going to Purdue from rural WKY is at an obvious disadvantage to the All-American with his name in the CJ and LHL every week.
