No, with all due respect, that's when you talk about transfers. If a kid is ruled eligible by the association or even by court injunction, he's a legal transfer.

All of our "transfers" come in middle school or junior high. I don't see kids making their decision to move schools at the age of 11 or 12 just because they want to play football. I see the kid transferring because the parent or guardian puts the education into perspective. We have, what you can consider transfers, yes. We have multiple, but doesn't every program?

Oh, and for a first hand account, I transferred because of the baseball coach. After my frosh year no less.

 

I say say all that to say this, we have a serious problem with moving on with regard to the neighbors. I, for one, wish we could just rise above that fray.

My point is, if you transfer to Raceland because you're some stud athlete and you think you're the best, you'll move again real quick. If you move to Raceland, you want better teammates, better teachers, or a better education. That's how it is, and how it will remain. That's just not reality. Barr left to go play baseball at Greenup, education be damned. See where these conversations lead? They open up the closet and we find all those old skeleton bones we either forgot, never knew, or simply glossed over.

I am unaware of the information details but I heard it was discipline problems out side of school. Regardless, if you have transfers, do the process correctly. Oldrambler was speaking about Fairview, not us.

When we talk about transfers, we talk about illegally. Dang straights we get transfers, but the transfers don't come for football 9/10 times. Kids who move from Greenup to Raceland are moving because of the education. Kids who move Russell to Raceland is either because the involvement of drugs at Russell is ridiculous or because of the politics there. I know this because I played with kids who transferred. But none of them transferred during their years with the varsity. The reason Raceland has a good program is because the team is close and tightly knitted. It is hard to have a transfer mid season or during their four years at Raceland because the team didn't grow up with the transferred kid. It sounds crazy but the closeness within the program contributes a lot to the success of a program.

First of all GB32, welcome to bgp :thumb:. As for your question - Yes, although most if not all have been as others have said came to Raceland for other reasons primarily. When I say primarily I am meaning that some live in the Wurtland / Greenup areas and that is the GCHS district.....One reason was Academics, GC has had problems with the state of Ky. in those areas, plus the politics at GC are unbelievable and some were just fed up with that. Another reason was simple math / economics in a way - GCHS is located in Lloyd, I am not sure of the exact milage from Wurtland and Greenup to Lloyd but it is a good distance, several miles. Wurtland is less than a mile from Raceland-Worthington High School and Greenup is approx. six miles away. Those kids have to get up pretty early to catch the GC school bus and if parents drive them the price of gas would be reason enough. A 2 to 12 mile round trip to Raceland is quite the savings over an approx. 25-30 mile and more at least to GCHS, depending on where they live. Some GC kids have longer trips. So now comes football / athletics. So you see there are several reasons other than football......Academics, distance, away from the politics of a county school system to name just a couple. Plus - as others have said most if not all came when they were in elementary school or 7th grade and that is not quite varsity football.

I would be willing to say that every school in our area has had kids from outside their school district that played / are currently playing sports. What most (I know in my case) complaints on the one particular school were Bringing in Kids from out of state for the sole reason to play fooball, that cannot be denied, just for the one or two years. Along wih..... / providing transportation........./ Falsifying school records (adding an illegal year of elgibiliy)...... / Rent Free Housing / some alleged cases of providing family members jobs within the school system . There is also the investigation still going on within that school system by the KY. State Education along with the KHSAA.

I think that one can see the difference, reason for complaints, questioning.

I am answering the question posed by GB32, there are no players on this team that have transferred during high school. We have a couple that came here before 7th grade. I took your question to be literal not generalized.
