What year are most of the top keepers in NKY? I feel like several of them are Sophomores and Juniors, but I could be wrong.

 

Highlands keepers are a Freshman and a Sophmore. Nice to have that position filled for the next several years!

So several of the top programs have sophomores or juniors between the pipes....bodes for another strong season of net-minding in 2015. Nice to see so many talented keepers coming along.

I saw McQueary from HHS play earlier in the year and was very impressed. This girl is going to be a monster in the coming years.

When you guys or gals compare keepers do you just look at goals allowed, team wins, or saves when you don't get to watch them all year? How many times do keepers get this great keeper tag just because of goals allowed? If you put a "great" keeper on a team with a lesser defense do you still rate them great? No disrespect to Ludlow but if your put NDA's keeper on that team is she still the best and same goes for Ludlows keeper on NDA's team.

Teams with two quality keepers are very lucky. If you don't have a clear number one play both and keep them sharp. Keepers are one hard collision away from missing a number of matches. When CC keep had to sit out two game suspension it showed. I am amazed at all the quality keepers in NKY.

Bottom line: Defense can make a keeper's job easier or more difficult. A lot of times, a keeper's true value can't be measured by GA's or shutouts.

Isn't there a stat for shots on goal also? That would be one measurement but a lot of goalies would need an eye test. How mobile are they. How good of leg or pass? etc...

Of course.

 

There are keepers asked to make one "tough" save a game because they have such a good back 4 in front of them, so a clean sheet for them is good, not great. Other keepers are standing on their head half the match, so that absolutely comes into it.

 

Of course, you also have the keepers that play behind such a stout defense that they end up losing focus and allowing a softie...which is infuriating 100% of the time to the coaches and his or her teammates. :irked:

Meg Martin from NCC is a decent goalie. She isn't tested with difficult shots often. Her defense (usually Ruthie Barth and Ansley Davenport) don't let many open shots through to her.
