I don't know enough about 9th region girls to say who is top 10. I'll say this. If there are 10 better players than McClendon then the 9th is extremely talented.

No not at all , its just kind of an interesting point to discuss. But on the other hand , isn't D1 the Highest Level in the College Ranks ? And what you would be telling me is a athlete that only plays at maybe a D3 level ( nothing wrong with that at all ) is better than one that lands a D1. :popcorn:

Not saying that. But we are judging players in the region this year. Not who is going somewhere after they leave high school. So I will ask you, who do you move down to move her up? And (in high school) what does she bring to the table in over all bball skills compared to who is in front of her and and maybe even 10 below her. I'm not knocking her, but if you move her up, then you're saying someone in front of her is not as good or better and the only reason is because she has a D1 scholly. Several kids get scholarships for their "upside", not necessarily where they are right now. Being 6'2', does she have more of an upside than a 5'5" PG who may be twice the player in High school, but 5'5" PG's are a dime a dozen in college. In fact not even make the height limit. There is much less competition in the 6 foot plus category than in the 5'7" and below. But does that mean she is a better high school player? Can she handle the ball fluently and under pressure, can she hit an outside shot regularly, can she defend the other team's best player (regardless of size), does she get the team into offenses and is the leader of her team on the floor, does she lead her team in assists and making the game easier for her teammates. Because I can name about 10 very good bball players in the 9th (that are not on the list) that can do all of that VERY well and none of them will sniff a D1 offer. But IMO could be on that list and very easily replace girls on that list. All I'm saying is there is a ton of talent in the 9th and to say one is better than the other and really the only reason to use is because she's playing D1 is silly. If she should be higher, tell us why, other than the D1 offer. Because that would be a hard sell for a lot of people.

 

Please understand than I'm happy as a lark for her. It's an outstanding accomplishment and I hope she kills it at the next level and I will be rooting for her all the way.

Using that logic, then only her and Turner should be listed 1 and 2. No one on the list (that I know of) is committed D1 right? So are you saying she is the most dominant player in the region? Is she a "game changer" in all or even most aspects of the game? Because there are about 20 players that I can name that are game changers or as much of a game changer at what they do as she is at what she does.

Is Neace the better player because she will play DI? I say It's all about AAU and exposure. Kiernan played for the Shining Stars, while Neace played across the river for the Cincy Heat. 'Nough said.

Interesting. Nothing against Neace at all...but Kiernan played HS basketball only 8 months ago and in my opinion, there was no one in her league last season...especially in the post. So I tend to agree with you.

I can't answer that for sure...but I always felt that would have been a great spot for her. Local talent staying home and bringing some attention to them. But I may have heard (and don't quote me cause I may have been dreaming) that they were interested and she didn't want to go there. I could be completely wrong. May have been her choice to chose the other school. But I think the point is, D1 doesn't equal best player.

I'm sure they were aware of her, perhaps she just wasn't what they needed at the time. But I'm sure that if she would have been given the exposure Neace received she would have been offered a paying scholarship somewhere. Some AAU teams are just better at getting their players seen and recruited at certain levels than others. The Shining Stars do a great job of placing their kids at the NCAA DIII level. But I can't recall any Shining Stars players going on to the DI or DIi level. Cincy heat, Ky Premiere, seem to do it every year. My point is the scholarship level is more about AAU exposure than talent.

As I have recently found out there are many layers to AAU basketball! And I can't speak for the type of schedule the stars play or played while she was with them but I feel it was similar to My daughters last AAU team (Lady Legends) because we faced them in many tournaments locally. With that being said Legends traveled far and wide (Chicago, Detroit, Indianapolis, Nashville etc..) and did so with very little exposure to college coaches and scouts. And her most recent experience was in an exposure event in Nashville with 30+ schools in attendance including Tennessee, Vanderbilt,LSU and Locals like NKU and UC. In that one tourney with the Cincinnati Angels she was exposed to more schools than the summer schedule combined! Who you play for and in front of means everything!
