Cats' Pause 9th Region Preview

I agree for the most part except I'd have Hunter Hendricks Jr. Conner on the top 10 players list. She can give teams fits with her 3s & not afraid to drive the lane to draw a foul!! She is also very scrappy on defense, plus this will be her 4th yr of Varsity experience as well.

I would also include Hunter Hendricks in my top 10. Unfortunately Hunter is out for the season with a torn ACL. Big loss for the Lady Cougar.

Ford, McGarr and Switzer will cause havoc this year. Very seasoned with true knowledge of the game. Ryle lacks what Boone has, true guard play however Boone lacks what Ryle has, size! The 9th region will be fun to watch:popcorn:

Are you saying those are the teams to beat?

Not necessarily, it is a great rival though. However, I believe the talent is spread throughout the whole region, I don't see one team dominating overall. As far as district play, I do believe these two teams play it out for the district hardware:up:

Got it! I don't see one team running away with it, but I think it's between 6 teams in this order

1. HC

1a. HHS

1b. Holmes

4. ND

5. Boone

6. Ryle

Several other pretty good teams that could beat you on a given night, but just not sure they have enough to make it through a regional tournament.

Interesting Point , how many girls on the list landed D1 scholarships ?

Region's Top 10 Players

1. Alexis Switzer Sr. Boone County

2. Deja Turner Sr. Holy Cross

3. Liza Tibbs Sr. Dixie Heights

4. Haylee Smith Sr Notre Dame Academy

5. Michaela Ware Sr. Newport Central Catholic

6. Ally Mayhause Sr. Holy Cross

7. Lydia Graves Sr. Highlands

8. Briana Adler Jr. Highlands

9. Carly Lange Jr. Ryle

10. Savannah Neace Sr. St. Henry

Tubbs from Holmes will be on this list by seasons end..

I had a chance to see Tubbs a couple of times this summer. She is a very talented offensive player. It will be interesting to see how her first season in Ky goes. I think she will be among the top 3 or 4 scorers in the region.

I'd say by the end of this season the Lady Dawgs will be well represented on this list!

Who are the starting five for Holmes?

I have no idea, but I would take my guess. But I wouldn't count this to be true.

Janice Stovall

Jynea Harris

Hanna Tubbs

Alexus Mayes/Tyra Engelmon

Mo Gulley

My guess would be if they play fast that you could see more Mayes and Englemon. If they go big and strong, Gulley is definitely in the game. This is complete speculation on my part, but nice problem to have for Holmes!

Gulley is the fastest girl on the team?? Okay maybe outside of Stoval and Johnson but I wouldn't put money on it!!

She is the biggest, strongest and fastest on the floor in most cases!

Not doubting any of that. Again, just my speculation. You are much closer to it than me. I just took a shot of answering the question. Your turn! You can't play 6 at a time! Someone has to not start and take a role. Again, who will that be then? And will there be issues or will it all work out? Will Mayes sit (been recognized as a player to watch in the state the last two years). Will Englemon sit (been a starter and recognized as one of Holmes' up and coming studs). Or will one of the guards sit. I think it also depends on if the coach wants/needs the best skills on the floor or the best athletes. Again, not a bad problem for Holmes to have!

As it stands today its

Stoval

Harris

Parker

Englemon

Gulley

Look for Tubbs to replace parker when healthy and expect Mayes to big off the bench. Mayes is small for a big and too slow for a guard but will be a solid contributor!

What is Tubb's injury and how long before healthy? And does Johnson have a chance to sneak in there while Tubb's is out?
