October 10, 201412 yr I'm either traveling or working from home. It's great not to have a local office to report to. My boss is two states away.
October 10, 201412 yr Author I believe Fairfax County is in VA. Yeah that is what I gathered. Traffic and cost of living=:irked: We lived in Stafford, VA. My dad worked at The Pentagon. His commute was absolutely insane. With no traffic it would take 20 minutes or so to get there, but since it's DC it took an easy 2 hours.

October 10, 201412 yr Dude. You don't recognize the Jeffersons theme song?! :ohbrother: Moving on up To the East side. --only words I remember.
October 10, 201412 yr I think it's funny that those who work from home cite flexibility as one of the biggest benefits, yet get frustrated when others ask for a favor during the day because of said flexibility. flexibility to work when I want to work, not when someone else thinks I don't need to.
October 10, 201412 yr I occasionally work from home and I could do so more often if I wanted - but I like working at the office better. When I work from home, I hook by government issued laptop up to a docking station, two external monitors, a keyboard, and a mouse and access the network via a VPN. On weekends and most evenings, the VPN is almost as fast as working from my desk at work but it is noticeably slower on normal workdays when network traffic is heavier. Eventually, I plan to live in the south where the cost of living is much, much, much lower than it is in Fairfax County and work from home, but that will require a switch of employers. One of the programmers on my project team just accepted a work from home job that will save him nearly four hours a day in commuting time and will be making about the same salary as he does now. VPN sucks! I have 50 MBps coming into the house. Thru VPN I just did a reading and I'm getting download speed of 11.64 MBps and an upload of 2.05 MBps.
October 10, 201412 yr OTB84 is a work from home unless he is traveling to clients......... A couple of thoughts....... 1. Everyone seems to see you running errands in shorts during the day........but no one sees you at midnight or at 5 am when you can't sleep and walk downstairs to the office. 2. It takes a lot of discipline to stay focused. Not for everyone, when you can go out of your office and see that the grass needs to be cut or that the sun is out and the golf course is calling.......that is why my office is in the basement without windows.... 3. If you have non driving kids.......Summer is really tough. Kids seem the think that if you are home, you are on summer break also...... One final confession......I do have my fly tying station on the "U" part of my desk, so if you want me to be on a conference call.......I will be tying the fly of the day !

I know you are just making a funny but you would have to walk in our shoes. Makes me think of people that have a pick up and everyone wants to borrow it, or people that are lawyers and everyone wants free legal advice, or a personal trainer that everyone wants to get free workout advice from.

October 13, 201412 yr I work from home the majority of the time. Mostly for convenience but prefer to work at my office downtown. In the summertime when my kids and wife are home to drive me crazy. I have to go to my office or I won't get any work down. I work in real estate so I get the flexibility to pick when I work my 60 hours a week
December 8, 201411 yr I'm on my third straight work day of in-office and have to come in again tomorrow. Can't wait until it's over. I'm not cut out for the "office life" anymore.
