Going to Dayton in a few weekends and I will be staying somewhere close to this place:

Dayton Raiders Aquatic Center

560 Grange Hall Rd.

Beavercreek, OH 45430

Looking for potential grub locations for Friday night mainly. Preferably somewhere with a decent tap.

I'm going to go ahead and answer for Randy:

Always a great time to be had in the Gem City. Most of my experience has been in and around campus and that's hardly big-time beer selections there. The first thing to know about UD is that no one leaves campus... ever. So I don't have a whole lot to offer in that department but for the last few years as I've visited friends that now live all around the city. But if you find yourself near UD, hit up Milano's. Really solid pizza and subs place with a pretty good row of taps.

As fas places I can really recommend, the best beer bar I've been to in Dayton was called Chappys. It's not too far from Beavercreek (still on the South side but right off I-75. Lots of beers and the food was good. I remember having the fried chicken and thinking it wasn't too bad for being north of the Mason Dixon.

A great spot to try would be the Oregon District. I haven't spent a ton of time there but there are several good bars and restaurants with lots of taps and several restaurants. It's basically the southeast area of downtown. If you do end up there, hit up Lucky's Taproom and Eatery. That's my favorite spot in and around downtown. Awesome food (especially the burgers) and a pretty sizable rotating beer list.

Oh... and Tank's Bar and Grill on Wayne Avenue between the UD campus and downtown Dayton. Best burgers in the city. Not a great tap list, but a pretty substantial bottled beer selection to complement the usual suspects on tap row.

You are staying east - too far east for any downtown or south of town suggestions unless you want a drive. But you will be very close to The Greene, Dayton's best new development, lined with tons of high and medium end bars and restaurants. If you're into beer, try Pies & Pints in The Greene. Lots of craft beers.

You will also be close to the Air Force Museum. It's a must visit.

I've heard good things about The Greene. Seems like too much of a canned pop-up development for my liking, but I've never been. Cheesecake Factory, Bar Louie... stuff like that.

As for the drive, there's no way it's even 15 minutes between the heart of Beavercreek and downtown unless you get snarled in after-work traffic. I've always thought the city was pretty easy to navigate.

Heard a funny quote from Dave Attell once.

"I went to Dayton, Ohio, recently. Know what's a fun thing to do there? Pack up and get the heck out, that's what. "

He didn't say heck though :lol2:
