Panhandler Caught Driving Fiat Is Confronted by Furious Man Who Gave Her Money

"The 78-year-old was holding a sign claiming she needed cash for food. According to Daniel Ayala, he had given her money on a few occasions even when he didn't have enough money to pay for his own lunch. The story could have ended there, but then one day Ayala noticed the woman sitting in the driver's seat of a bright red 2013 Fiat — not exactly what you would expect of a woman who begged for money. He couldn't contain himself and let the woman know how he felt by screaming at her in the parking lot."

I'm not too sure I'd be screaming at a 78 yo woman if this had happened to me...but I would be irritated for sure.

Last spring I needed a newer car, and had really went back and forth about it for months before purchasing a used 2010 Focus. How someone who supposedly needs money bad enough to panhandle can drive a nicer, newer car than I do, I'm not quite sure. Seems like that $17,000 could have been spent more wisely, like, say on food and clothing?

This is the kind of thing that makes people look the other way and pass over someone who may really need the help.

Call me selfish, but I rarely give panhandlers money. I just don't trust them.

Very timely point for me. I am the same way. At two intersections during lunch today there were panhandlers. I will not give them money for the same reason...it is a full-time job for some that beats actually having a boss... I choose to give to organized charities and church....but never enough.

I have to admit I don't trust some who call themselves pastors, ministers, etc. It has been a bit harder to be a Catholic the last few years as well. For that matter, I don't trust all the organized charities as well.

Are you telling me I should just donate to the Clyde House non-profit trust? :lol2:

Me and my buddies make jokes about coming out of Reds or Bengals games.... Many times you look down and these guys are wearing newer Nike's that we are! And once (you can't make this up) there was a female, probably late 20's early 30's, who was holding a cardboard sign in one hand and behind it was texting on her iPhone in the other. At least make the effort if you're going to try something like that.

It also annoys me on the occasions that I get someone who comes up to me while at the gas pump to tell me their sob story of how they ran out of gas and don't have any cash to get anywhere for whatever reason. Usually in there somewhere there is a 'I don't do this all the time but..." Look. There is an ATM right there inside the building. If you had cash, you'd get it.

I'd rather people be honest. I'd be more likely to give them money... Still not likely, but don't treat me like I'm stupid and don't know your game.

Had a guy come up to me in Lexington one night. Said he was almost out of gas, heading to Cincy/Louisville/Nashville...somewhere like that and needed money for gas. We were right by a Kroger with gas pumps. I said sure, pull your car over there and I will put some gas in it, follow me on over. Guy gets in his car, as I pull up to the pumps, takes off and leaves, never see him again. Of course, point of the story is the last thing he wanted was gas, he wanted cash for gosh knows what, drugs I would assume.

Same thing happened to me at Newport Krogers. Told the guy to pull his car over and I'd put a few gallons in it. He got all mad and stormed off.

My point is that if I didn't give to a group because some in the group are frauds , whether individuals or religious organizations, I'd never donate a single dollar.

IMO the frauds in organizations are outside the norm by a lot, fraudulent panhandlers are more common.

I'd say that's a safe bet. % of those with a legit need is still high enough for me.
