That I can give you, but what if schools have different fall break times and cant find common ground on the schedule?

In the end. FT Knox has to do what's in their best interest. I get that. Obviously they are going through some tough times. Maybe they should have dropped out of district play this year in 2A. They are moving to 1A next year. When i think about where they were 20 years ago, it's mind boggling. It's just not good for our team. Now we will go 2 weeks before our season biggest game.

 

There are still a bunch of teams with only 9 games, if one of them has an open week, play them next week.

Weak weak weak. No way would my kids be going on fall break when there is a game/practice to be had. No excuse is a good one for this to happen.

You really believe that? It wouldn't have changed anything, but he should have had the courtesy to let us know earlier in the week.

Where did I blame the school? When I said schedule it a different week? That's not blaming that's offering a solution.

Nope. They just want out of the game.

The way I understand it...FK was going to play with 15...then a parent of 3 players who started called the coach today around 2 and told him they were leaving town today to go on vacation. Personally playing with 15 was stretching it...but 12 would be a safety concern. Blame the coach all you want but has to be joint effort of coach, player, parent, administration and community to make a program go. If one or two of these things are not committed then it is hard to make a program successful. Sounds like that is the case here. Just my 2 cents.

I can remember when Ft. Knox had a very respectable football program not too many years ago.... Sounds like a lot has changed. Maybe DeSales can focus on two weeks of preparation for the game against CAL!!!! That should be a very good one! Good Luck to both teams.

You still have to keep commitments. The Army knows what that word means. Disgraceful is the only word I can think of. Get rid of football if there isn't enough commitment to have it.

I don't care if it's a military base school or not, as you stated, the military has such things they follow such as commitments and integrity. So why are they scheduling a game and letting down the 12 who wanted to play, as well as the players from the other team? As soon have mentioned, it's a bush league move! And no one will talk me out of that thought!

 

Make the players sign a commitment, at least one of their parents should know what that word means, the family has to let the coaches know during summer practice if they intend to miss games during a break. As also was stated, regular season is only 10 games.

 

If I was the KHSAA I would give teams a way out of a forfeit like this, a district game, you can pay a fee (let's say 1 to 2k), if you know in advance, if you wait longer the fee will be much higher. Give the other team a chance to find a team who will at least show up.

 

Some of you who don't see an issue here and claim that the parent who is in the army is home this week, do you know that for fact? Or are you just giving a (this is a possibility)? What happened to the parents of the 12 who could have played? Those other players and parents let down their teammates, plain and simple.

If this really did happen then the parents should find another activity for their kids. Waiting until the last minute to tell the coach? So much for discipline, honor, and commitment.

 

I don't see anyone blaming the coach, or saying they should have played with 12, it's the parents of the other players let 12 of their teammates down and the entire team of the opponent. I commend the coach for originally wanting to play with 15.

When did fall break start? If it starts today then this is on the parents of the players. Your son made a commitment to a team and should play the game. The family can "travel" after the game or tomorrow morning. Poor lesson to teach a kid.

 

I'm sympathetic to those who do have family home for a week or two. But wouldn't that family member want to see them play the game?
