Sounded like a good one. Unfortunately could not make tonights game but what I have heard was it was another fluke goal given up by Scott's shaky D. Also was told Scott had plenty of shots on goal and many different oppurtunities to score but failed to do so. You gotta convert any chance you got when playing a team like Cov Cath.

Not sure where to start with that game. I'd say the tone was set early on in the game when a Scott player went down with an injury so CCH intentionally played the ball out of bounds in their own defensive third of the field so the player could get assistance. Player goes off and throw in goes to Scott and what do they do? Instead of throwing the ball in to CCH and giving them possession back, they send almost everyone forward for a throw-in and try to take advantage and score! Biggest hillbilly play I've seen in the last 5 years of high school soccer.

 

I think 5 yellow cards to Scott and one to CCH. Treadway and Schneider should have both been ejected in this game. Schneider, already on a yellow, body slams the CCH keeper late in the game on a long ball played into the area. Never came close to playing the ball. CCH keeper may be out with a concussion I believe as the backup finished the game. Treadway was also crashing the keeper on the play and got the yellow instead. He hacked and flopped his way around the field all night as well. Treadway was shut down by Ben Darpel's man marking. Schneider was also neutralized for the most part by a combination of Austin Flynn/Michael Wessels all night and Sam Romes in goal made stops when he needed to.

 

Unfortunately, the center ref bought every flop and whine the Scott players could dish out and they must have had 20 free kicks in the CCH defensive half of the field but converted on none of them. Their game plan consisted of getting almost everyone behind the ball and booting it up the field to Treadway/Schneider time after time after time. Ugly game. Kick and run all night.

 

I'd note that CCH played Bryce Day, Joe Schuh and Patrick Ballow about half the game or so in this one and used a lot of their bench. CovCath goal by Rob Lilly in the second half off of a free kick played in by Parker Kenney I believe. Hopefully no lingering injuries to CCH after that hack-fest.

You gotta remember, their coach is doing good things there, and give him a break, he is not from around here so he might not get the hillbilly thing.

Re the "hillbilly" play....Pretty sure that is not a courtesy only in NKY soccer. Pretty common practice to get the ball out of bounds to stop play then return the ball to the team who had possession.

No, of course it's not. No matter where you go, that is customary. Play the ball out of bounds and the team with the injured player gives it back on the throw in. Scott went into attack mode.

 

I'd also note that at least three of the Scott yellow cards were for dissent/jawing at the ref. They'd come off the field and almost immediately be re-inserted into the game. Classy.

I hope that the Romes kid is doing OK, heals quickly, and does not miss any time. I must say that I find it sad when a big part of your focus against certain teams, is getting off the pitch without any casualties.

 

Unfortunately, I think one thing that goes unnoticed... is that some of these plays... which result in an injury... are having an impact on these boys seasons that go well beyond the actual game that they occur in.

Even in U10 select you would see that handled correctly. That is really disappointing.

How many yellows does Scott average per game? What's the ratio of yellows to flops for Scott? If they're not flopping, they're trash talking or trying to take people out. Been that way for the last 2-3 years. THAT FALLS ON THE COACH.

Been up traveling since 3:45 so please forgive all typos...grammatical errors, etc....

 

Here is what I took away from the game.....

 

Scott is a very talented/dangerous team. Treadway/Schneider up top are hard to handle. Treadway gets quality shots off quicker than any player I've seen. Rome's made some outstanding saves to keep him off the score board. I think Morgan could put the ball into a bucket from 40 yards out if he tried. Dangerous restarts and is smart with the ball. Seay may be the best keep in nky. Made a save to keep it 1-0 that I'm not sure any other keeper makes. Defense last night was to move 5 back at all times and as soon as the ball was own, turn and play it long to Treadway and Schneider . You can see why they have had success.

 

With that said....have to agree with some of the statements already said. They have some players......5 or 6 and not everyone that I mentioned above fall into that, that just seem to scream and complain to the ref after every play. With last nights center ref, it worked most of the time. There were a couple of plays that just kind of scratching your head.

 

The throw in after injury is one....but the other,that kind of sums up how the ref was to me.....was........nice cross into cchs box by Scott player. Schneider goes full out but just runs out of room, but still gets as nice header on the ball, but it hits side netting, out of bounds. As the CCH player was calling for the ball from the ball boy ( who seemed to work very hard) the center ref sees it on the sideline and calls a throw in for CCH. Instead of the goal kick. That one was puzzling......not sure why the ir wouldn't step in either......

I think you have to qualify.......yellow cards for hustling and playing hard but clean, happen. But cards for dissent or rough, dangerous plays are different........hard to count just cards...

I never said CCH did nothing wrong last night. Teams/players commit fouls every game. Joe Schuh received the only yellow card for CCH last night after he was called for a foul against Treadway. I think it was a retaliation and not smart by Joe. He came out of the game where he remained and would have been for the duration had Ben Darpel not been hacked (by Treadway) and taken out of the game for the duration late in the second half. Joe replaced him on the field.

 

I believe Scott had 5 yellows, most of which were for dissent, including Schneider's. It could have easily been 7-8 yellows. Schneider was whining/crying after every play when he didn't get a call and finally the ref had enough. Scott's keeper, also a yellow for dissent. Hegerty I believe.......yellow for dissent. All of them just come right back into the game after a short break. You see no issue with that?
