Again, this problem completely starts and ends with the coach. Most players have reputations across Northern Kentucky. It's sad to see great and talented players act in the manner they do. Scott needs to show some class for once.

 

Well said... I had an uncle that coached D1 soccer for a decade.... He always preached playing hard and showing respect ( for the opponent, officials, fans, etc) at the same time.

If I recall, he tripped Treadway along the sideline. Garden variety foul from what I saw. They were mixing it up, I think Joe felt he was fouled and when it wasn't called he fouled and it was called, which is normally the case w/ retaliation fouls.

 

This play happened right in front of where I was sitting at the game. Before I go on let me just say I have no horse in this race just a fan of some good high school soccer. The CCH player made contact with the Scott player in a shoulder to shoulder challenge on a 50/50 ball. Once the CCH player felt the contact he raised his shoulder up and caught the Scott player above the shoulder and the Scott player went down. This play happened right on the sideline in front of the AR who immediately signaled the foul and the center went straight to his pocket.

Back to some pure soccer analysis from what I can tell, as I wasn't in attendance, it sounds from this thread and previous ones I've read on both teams the game in terms of tactics were polarized and seems to have neutralized each other based on style and how it was executed and officiated.

 

What I mean is that it sounds (in general) as though the CCH game plan is usually to possess the ball and take what the defense gives them in terms of offensive opportunity. The Scott strategy is play vertical and use the power and speed of their 2 forwards.

 

Sounds as though CCH's strategy was affected by Scott's style, officiating and lingering player medical issues.

Scott's strategy was affected less affected by CCH's defensive play and the disruption of player personnel due to YCs.

 

Assuming I'm close, how did the their tactics play out in the game? What worked and didn't work for each team's strategy that they may have problems with in tournament play? What worked for each?

I felt that CCH was able to possess the ball with their midfielders and play the ball out wide where Scott had what seemed like no out side mids. If Scott did they were playing back behind the ball and allowing CCH to come to them. I felt Scott played back and gave up the midfield to CCH and tried to play on the counter and get the ball to #9 whom would look to send #34 and #7 in on goal with through balls or balls over the top. I feel that when Scott did play it out wide they had good looks on crosses in to the box, but that didn't happen to often given the lack of any true outside mids for Scott.

Yes, he went down......again and again and again. The roughest, most physical player on the field would go down at the slightest contact. Refs fell for it again and again.

Not to saying that is true or not but if contact occurs outside the rules of the he game ie shoulder to shoulder arms by their side and the offending play has not got ball before the player it is foul weather the play goes down or not. I do believe that the USA soccer refing rules even state that you don't even have to make contact with a player to commit a foul.

This is a trainwreck.

On another topic.......can't remember if I put Scott on my early list of best places to play....but they really do have a nice facility......
