theguru Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 1. Bowling Green vs. Logan County (10/2) 2. Pulaski County at North Laurel 3. Madison Southern at #9 Southwestern 4. Bullitt East -- OPEN 5. Warren Central vs. 4A #3 Owensboro 6. Anderson County vs. Woodford County 7. Franklin County at East Jessamine 8. Cooper at Conner 9. Southwestern vs. #3 Madison Southern 10. Iroquois at Grayson County (10/2)
ATLCat Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 There is not a Top 5 team in any classification that shouldn't beat South Laurel with a running clock. Madison Southern needed a near miracle to even win at all. Southwestern to this point has earned their ranking... with Doan transferring back to Somerset for reasons outside of football though it will be interesting to see if they remain a Top 10 team.
Jumper_Dad Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 Yeah that's the thing with Mad South, can they out score you...because they sure aren't going to stop you.
Clubber Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 Good to see Cooper jump back into the top 10. Tough game this week against a rejuvinated Conner team at Conner. Should be a great game. Go Jags! ! !
Jumper_Dad Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 Southwestern and Madison Southern game this week will be very interesting, I honestly wouldn't be shocked with either team winning. I kinda think this is a Trap game for Madison Southern, due to next weeks game being nationally televised on ESPNU against Pulaski. It would be real easy for HS Kids to look ahead.

Had Doan stayed at Southwestern I would have taken Southwestern for the upset for sure.

All that has to happen to move Madison Southern down is for them to lose. And, so far, they haven't done that.

Corbin beat South Laurel 63-0... Corbin also lost by 26 to Pulaski County... do you feel there is a minimum of a 26 point margin between #2 and #3 in 5A?
blueandblack14 Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 I think it's pretty awesome to see Iroquois at #10. Wouldn't it be something if they finished 10-0?
gchs_uk9 Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 I think it's pretty awesome to see Iroquois at #10. Wouldn't it be something if they finished 10-0? Their next three games will all be tough, just because they are district games, and it will be interesting to see how Iroquois handles success. It isn't at all out of the realm of possibility for them to finish 10-0, though.
Ram Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 By that logic Iroqouis should be ranked 4th then, right? They haven't lost either. Not even close to the same logic. A team starting at number 3 and not losing a game keeps them at number 3, mostly. A team that starts as the last team in the class for several years running has to move their way up from the bottom. Big big difference.

Outside of Grayson County, North Hardin is 1-5 and Jeffersontown is 0-5. Atherton will be an easy win for them to end the regular season. I really don't see them finishing any worse than 8-2.

A team that starts as the last team in the class for several years running has to move their way up from the bottom. Big big difference. Not really. It's not like we are talking about Highlands or Trinity here... Mad. Southern is a traditional lower tier program who had a good year last year with a very soft schedule in a district who happens to have a draw against by far the weakest 5A District. I can buy keeping teams ranked when they win...as long as those wins are quality wins. Why is Bullitt East ranked #4 (a ranking I completely agree with for the record)? None of their wins I suspect are against teams in any respective Top 15 in the State? Bullitt East has, what, one Finals appearance in school history? What validity is there to rank Bullitt East so high? I think we both know the answer is because they lost two very close games to two pretty good teams. Just as Bullitt East should be rewarded and have their ranking decided by losing close to a very good Boyle County team, should not Madison Southern be punished for winning close against a very bad South Laurel team?
