I could see Beechwood getting moved up with a win this week, but is Cov Cath that much if any better than Belfry at this point?

Still don't agree with the BURG at 5 because they haven't lost. I also am by no means a fan either.

Coming from a Belfry fan recent history would suggest the edge to CCH and at worst a wash.

The better question was why were they ranked #2 last week ahead of Pikeville and Beechwood after what they did to move up?

Beating Wayne like they did is pretty impressive. Newport played them tough but that's a decent team from up north. I can see them at 3 or 4. If beechwood is competitive against Cov Cath then they stay at 3 if not drop them to 4.

Maybe so but Williamsburg returned their whole team from last year. I think you could make a case for Beechwood or Frankfort ahead of them, but not Pikeville. Pikeville lost to a team last year Williamsburg beat by 27 and all but one player from Burg is back and better, not to mention they added a top notch runningback from Harlan.

Mayfield is basically a completely different team than last years, so should we not be ranked #1 because of that? The body of work from last season, and what players return is really only good for the preseason ranking. This deep into the season the polls are indicative (I don't even know what that means:lol2:) of this years body of work.

The West was substantially better than the East last year which is why I have no gripe with what you want to do with them. But until proven otherwise Williamsburg should be the top team in the East. Williamsburg might have only been the 4th or 5th best team in class A last year as the Finals clearly indicated. However, they were far and away the best team in the Eastern half of the state in Class A.

The problem though is what makes you improve?

 

Pikeville also returned essentially their entire roster, but in the case of Pikeville they are playing a schedule that is 3 or 4X harder than WBurg. They are seeing team speeds faster than what Wburg is facing..their starters are playing more game reps... the starters are facing more situations and plays that have pressure.. they are getting hit harder.. they are having their weaknesses exposed so they can work on them.

 

Wburg, OTOH, is destroying inferior competition that isn't even on par to any of the teams they will potentially see from Round 3-5 of the playoffs.

 

Iron sharpens iron.

 

Last year Wburg got pushed by a very good Wayne County team and a solid North Laurel team and it made them better. This year those tests aren't on their schedule.

 

I can tell you already that Pikeville from Game 1 vs. Pburg to when they defeated Belfry was night and day different. Pikeville was good Week 0... a Top 7 1A team. Pikeville right now is a really good 1A team...Top 3.
