The Frankfort Beechwood thing is a flip flop. I'm taking it that they are looking at how Beechwood man handled Franklin County and Frankfort lost to Franklin County?

 

Not sure why Frankfort dropped two spots, they had a nice victory over LCA 47-27 with many players not even playing, looked like a Frankfort Junior Varsity team vs. LCA.

Guys it's about match ups and attacking the other team. Frankfort now will not be Frankfort in November. Starting to get healthy should be back at 95% next week at Paris.

 

This week they are in a final tune up game designed for BW. After that it is planning for playoffs next 4 weeks. Frankfort treats first 6 games like scrimmages. (I am sure others do to) still want to win but it's a marathon not a sprint.

Mayfield does that also. Like you said of course we want to win em all, but fixing the problem spots is more important. I think it's very important to schedule tough competition in these games. If you don't, you will find yourself unprepared for a battle in the playoffs.

I would also like to say that it does appear that the East is very strong this year. That half of the playoffs should be really interesting to see how it unfolds.

I think the eastside of the bracket is much improved from last year, while the westside may be about the same.. I do think Beechwood is better and Frankfort returned a lot, so, they may also be slightly better.. Holy Cross is better and could challenge.. I don't think Russellville is quite as good as last year and Mayfield may be a little worse, but, still very good. Pikeville, Hazard and W'Burg are all improved from last year, while Raceland is young and may be slightly behind last years squad, but, still dangerous..

Whoa now, wait a minute. I've been to most of the Mayfield / Tilghman games over the last 40 years and never once would I describe it as a "scrimmage" like game. Even the two Mayfield / McCracken games have taken on quite a rivalry atmosphere for such a new series. I understand you are saying you guys work on things to improve (that should go unsaid for all teams) but to entertain CoachBuckett's idea of the first 6 games being like scrimmages is ridiculous from the teams and rivalries I watch.

I love that some other 1a teams are stepping up there games, because, frankly, Mayfield's not done anything bad to warrant moving down, it's just other teams have stepped up and won some big games that's vaulted them over the Cardinals.. Good to see they've stepped up and earned it instead of Mayfield faultering and getting it by default..

Going to 3 straight championships (for the current group of seniors) and winning 2 by HUGE margins makes them #1...nobody, by virtue of their recent wins over other teams this year that aren't Mayfield vaults over Mayfield until you BEAT Mayfield.:no:

 

With that logic then, a Pikeville win over Belfry this year cant be classified as them "beating the 3A State champ last year" because Belfry isnt last years team...they are just just Belfry this year and thus meaningless....but we know its not meaningless because they are the reigning state champs..just like Mayfield..so until you beat them...make all the arguments for the #2 spot on down.:isurrender:

Logic is a little flawed. If someone was bragging about defeating the 4A Champs Collins then you would have a valid point. Collins is clearly way down and not nearly the same team. With that said, Pikeville legitimately can say they defeated the #1 team in 3A. Belfry's merits on the field and how they have performed THIS SEASON supports the claim that Pikeville has had the best win of any team in Class 1A. Pikeville's success has also came from defeating quality teams. Every team they have defeated so far is a ranked team except for Sheldon Clark. Belfry, Pbrug, Paintsville, Hazard, and Middlesboro combined are undefeated aside from the Pikeville loss.

 

Now with that said, I am a firm believer Mayfield is a clear cut #1 team right now until something happens at their own hands to prove otherwise. I don't think history should be ignored first and foremost... and even if you did Mayfield's resume is pretty stellar in itself. McCracken County is the best team any 1A team has faced and Mayfield took them to OT and nearly won. They have two wins over pretty highly ranked teams as well of their own.

 

As a Belfry fan I would love to bang the Pikeville drum and say the Belfry win sets them apart..but the truth of the matter is I haven't seen anything this year out of a 1A team as impressive as Mayfield hanging with McCracken and nearly beating them.

It's not insane. According to Lit ratings, Pikeville and Beechwood have done enough to surpass the Cardinals. It's a computer poll, which are never perfect, but, it does have some merit, moreso than opinion polls who always vote there area's team a little higher than the rest of the state. I think Mayfield has been hurt a little by the fact that Ft Campbell is down and PT is down, not Mayfields fault and proves nothing, considering Mayfield beat both by a considerable margin, but, it does hurt the strength of schedule. With that said, if Mayfield lined up with either Friday night, I'd bet on the guys in Red and Black..

I guess I should've worded that a little different. We don't look at them as scrimmages at all. It's more of looking at it as 2 separate seasons. The 2nd season being the most important. Sorry if I gave off any indication otherwise! :thumb:
