Cops Will Not Be Indicted in Walmart Police Shooting | Mediaite It stops before the police show up. This link shows the guy standing in an aisle and apparently talking on his phone when he is shot by the police. No audio. Fast-forward to about 0:50. Surveillance Video Released of Wal-Mart Toy-Gun Police Shooting - The Root Grand jury chose not to indict.
September 24, 201412 yr There are several videos on the link and one shows him getting shot...he is swinging the gun back and forth beside him and several times appears to be raising the gun...on the third or fourth swing forward as the gun is coming up he is shot. He stands in that corner for several minutes like he was waiting for someone or something.

He stands in that corner for several minutes like he was waiting for someone or something. Some would say that the swinging gun was not being pointed at anyone. What we can't tell from the tape is if the police yelled for him to drop it. After the first shot when he clearly dropped the gun what was the reason for the next shot? Those are the discussion points and they seem fair to ask/question.
September 25, 201412 yr Well how many times do you let someone swing a gun in your direction and hope he doesn't bring it up all of the way. As far as multiple shots I'd say the just squeezed off 3 or 4 quick rounds as quick as they could and once he fell they quit shooting. They are trained to do that, not take one shot and stop and reassess the target then aim and shoot again. I saw a video with the 911 call played along with the video, it seems as if the police were only there just before they shot him and may have only saw him raise the gun one or two times before shooting. FWIW as soon as he "Starts" to raise it they are justified in shooting. I would bet any amount of money that they did yell to drop it, that is so ingrained in their training it's as automatic as un-holstering their pistol.
September 25, 201412 yr Didn't read the articles, just going off what Clyde posted...Why would a store have bb guns available that can just be picked up and carried around? Seems like Wal-Mart may want to change that, no?

Seems like Wal-Mart may want to change that, no? Someone had taken it out of the box and left it laying on the counter. Knowing Walmart the way I do, I would bet after this has now happened probably 2 or 3 times this year the BB/Airsoft guns may behind lock and key (Which is something Walmart hates to do)...but you won't be the only one asking that question.
September 25, 201412 yr A 911 call prompted police there in the 1st place. The caller said a guy was walking around waving a gun and pointing it at people. Whether it was true or not, police have to assume it is when they go in. They followed procedure from there on.

Tell me who he was pointing the gun at. It certainly wan't the officers and , in fact, he was not pointing it at anyone. Secondly, it certainly appears that shots were fired AFTER the gun was dropped and when it's clear from the video the victim did not have a gun in his hands.
September 25, 201412 yr There was an officer down the back aisle to the left, (I actually think that is who shot him too) that's who he was raising the gun towards or at least in his direction. Granted he didn't get it raised all the way but do you wait until he raises level to point it to you. I don't think in the view I saw that the officers that come running in from under the camera are the ones that shot him. All shots appeared to be over in 1 to 2 seconds, it would seem to be standard that you would fire several shots until the threat went down. As I said above; you don't shoot once, stop, see what target is doing, reacquire target, aim, shoot, stop, see what target is doing...and so on. Officer at the point they start shooting are no longer looking at the gun, they are shooting as they are trained, until the threat is down.

They perceived a threat. For that reason I wouldn't indict them, but I also wouldn't want them to ever be a police officer again. I am willing to believe that they got scared and shot, but I see NOTHING on that vieo that looks like it justifies shooting.
September 25, 201412 yr Author There was an officer down the back aisle to the left, . Wow. I didn't notice that and had not read that anywhere. Where did you hear that? The special prosecutor didn't act like an officer was across from him. http://www.cincinnati.com/story/news/courts/2014/09/21/grand-jury-convenes-beavercreek-walmart-police-involved-shooting-john-crawford-iii/16030327/
September 25, 201412 yr Author Found this video that was synced up with the 911 call audio. Few things: Witness said victim was pointing the gun at people. Never saw that. He said the victim pointed the gun at two kids. Did not happen. Gun never left his side. No officer in the back corner. Very little time between "put the gun down" and shots fired - 1 second maybe? September 25, 201412 yr Clyde, I can't see too well on this iPhone on what he had in his hand, what was he lifting up and down? I'm calling out Mr. Ritchie as a bigot! He saw a black guy with a gun and LIED about several MAJOR things to at least get a black guy in trouble! He lied and said that he pointed the gun at the two kids, and he failed to mention the adult with the two kids? Why? To ignore a possible credible adult witness. As was pointed out, the cop only gave no more than a second for the guy to drop the gun. It's like that "stop (bang) or I'll shoot". The guy didn't appear to raise it at all at the cop. Mr. Ritchie should be charged with at least making a false report/claims/information or whatever. As his lies led to this guys death. Plus, only one caller at a Walmart about a man with a gun, that should have been a very big odd thing during the only 911 call.

Family of man fatally shot at Wal-Mart 'disgusted' MY BAD!!! I saw someone run around the counter towards the police when I watched this on my phone and didn't realize it was the guy they shot, I thought it was an officer. Watched again on my computer and the boy begins to raise the gun right before he is shot. Looking at the split video the officers had just came around the stack base in the aisle and made contact with him and his head turns towards them and he raises the gun slightly. Maybe the officer could have waited a few seconds longer, but if that was a real gun the kid could have fired off several shots very quickly. You don't raise or start to raise a gun towards anyone that has the drop on you. It is a tragic loss of life, however we look at it.
