I'm concerned if the Beechwood varsity kicker gets hurt that they won't have anyone ready to fill in. I'm sure Daniel Mescher would kick as often as needed.

 

Highlands had a freshman kicker a few years ago that kick at all levels every week. I think he is still there!

 

Jared Daugherty is still there and only a junior. He defiantely has a DI leg.

Nothing to worry about. If Mescher had to kick for varsity this week he would be better than half the kickers in N. Ky. It shocks me when I see how bad the kickers are for many schools all the way up to 6A. How a 6A school can't find a respectable kicker is mind boggling.

So let me understand this. The kid is only a freshman and dresses varsity, but does not kick at all unless game is out of reach? If so, why does he not kick for the JV and/or Frosh team? Does the kid only kick or is he a field player as well?

He dressed the last 2 varsity games. He did not dress vs Dixie or New Cath JV games. I assume he dressed this weekend vs Scott JV (because they had extra points scored) but I wasn't there to confirm.

 

I think he plays cornerback and is backup qb on freshman team. He is a nice athlete but on the small side.

The varsity kicker #10 kicked for the JV this weekend....not the Freshman kicker #8. This was the first time the varsity kicker who is a junior kicked for the JV this year. He is only a kicker, not a position player. The freshman kicker #8 obviously kicks for the freshman, has kicked once for the JV and has dressed and kicked during varsity games.....just not all three levels in the same weekend. Not sure if the freshman kicker plays another position...dont think so. Both are very good.

There isn't another capable kicker on the varsity team. Mescher is a good athlete and plays a lot on the freshman team. That is where he is getting his playing time and experience as a player and a kicker. To add JV to that is too much. Plus, Beechwood believes in keeping freshmen at the freshman level. They very seldom move any players up to varsity or JV until the freshman season is over.

You are probably correct....however, Beechwood does not typically allow a kid to dress at all three levels during the same week. Beechwood is not the only school that does not "worry" too much about not having a kicker for extra points on JV...they are able to work on 2 point plays. Anyone can "squib kick" the ball off the tee during kick offs. It not a big deal. They gave the varsity kicker some extra reps during this JV game. Not sure who kicked for this group of seniors when they were freshman....
