you'll never catch me polluting it with cream and sugar.

I'm with you on the cream and sugar. There was a MASSIVE communication breakdown between me and the woman on the listening end of the drive through at Dunkin Donuts a few weeks back and the cream and sugar made it undrinkable. Just horrible.

However, last year someone introduced me to the hazelnut coffee from Panera Bread... that was an eye-opener. Never was into the french vanilla or anything like that before but that hazelnut was pretty tasty with a bagel and cream cheese.

Usually drink at least 1 big cup every day that I believe would probably be considered 2 cups in this study, being that I think 12 oz is considered one cup of coffee. Drink more than that on some weekends. But, I will go a day or two at times and not drink any. Sometimes I get a headache from not having it, sometimes not.

Have to have lots of cream and sugar as well. if I had to drink it black would find something else to drink.

Before I answer...what exactly constitutes a cup in this question?

A coffee pot holds twelve 6 ounce cups.

I have 2-3 cups a day.

I also think if anyone tells you they are dependent on coffee, (i.e. they can't function without it) they're greatly exaggerating, and if you believe them, you're extremely gullible.

With my updated understanding of what a "cup" is, I am revising my answer to state that I consume 9-10 cups per day. Using the Rockmom scale, 1-2 per day.

Caffeine is an addictive substance, no doubt about that, and many people will go into some sort of withdrawal without their delivery mechanism for that caffeine. For many, that delivery system is coffee. So just like someone gets hooked on cigarettes or an illegal drug and become addicted and "need" it, so goes caffeine for those that drink a lot of it, and for those that get it through coffee, they need their coffee.

I agree it is addictive, maybe it relates to the person, but if I go without coffee, I have a headache which I am sure is caffeine withdrawal. I can get over it pretty easy. During the weekend when I am moving around a lot, I often don't get a chance to get a 2nd or 3rd cup of coffee, and I don't notice any effects unless I stop moving around...then I could take a nap. But, I really enjoy my coffee, and I will trade off any ill effects.

Not that I NEED any more help with that...but yes it does indeed.

I drink a few 16oz thermal mug on my way to work. I refill with another 16oz of coffee around 9:30am. If it's an extraordinarily stressful day, I'll get another 16oz around 2. I drink water throughout the day as well, about 24oz/day. And iced tea for dinner. No sugar, no cream. LOVE the taste of coffee and love the experience is sipping a cup of coffee. It's really relaxing.

My volume is not so high....probably 10 oz. first thing and 8 oz mid morning and early afternoon. However, I will only drink strong coffee or an expresso. If it is weak, I would rather do without.

No, they don't need it, they want it. They'll have a headache if they don't get it. May be grumpy too. They can still function. Anyone who tells you differently is either exaggerating or lying or both.
