September 7, 201412 yr And you weirdos who love that lawn-mowing stuff — and you know who you are — come on by my place too. I'm happy to sit back and watch your strange definition of fun. It is only fun when I am paid by the homeowner. I see mowing lawns as getting paid to exercise.
September 7, 201412 yr It is only fun when I am paid by the homeowner. I see mowing lawns as getting paid to exercise. I want to look at it that way, since I get a break on rent from my landlord for doing it, but it still feels like a massive pain in the kiester.
September 7, 201412 yr Welcome to home ownership. You can: a) pay someone b) buy all the lawn toys and spend an hour or 2 a week c) have kids (preferably a hard working boy) - wait about 12 years. Make it his job. Weeds might be a bit high by then though.
September 8, 201412 yr There are 10.25 acres I have to mow, so I got creative. I mow the acre around the house regularly. The back 5+ acres I mow paths around and right through the center that I keep low, and it makes for a nice jogging track. The front 4 are basically driveway and easement which the neighbor mows (yay). The rest of it mainly I mowed early in the year to make sure it thickened up, and I have let it go since mid-July, and the butterflies and deer like it. Hopefully some day I will have some herbivores to help with the mowing. I have a decent size zero turn, and I don't mind riding around on that at all!
September 8, 201412 yr Author Get yourself some goats. Problem solved. I need goats for the back yard, it goes straight down hill to the creek.
September 9, 201412 yr Is it a lawn or a yard? In my neck of the woods it's a yard. Either way, I can't keep my mowed fast enough. I got caught by all the rain we had last week and finally had to mow mine while it was still partially wet. It clumped grass everywhere, which was an extra job to do, raking.
September 10, 201412 yr I must admit, I love mowing grass. I mow both my yard and my wife's yard (two houses......too long a story to go into). And.....I mow both yards with a push mower. I get in my 10,000+ daily steps on my pedometer when I mow. It is relaxing and good exercise for me. I have been doing it since I was seven years old.

Actually enjoying it is a whole 'nuther ballgame. I just can't identify with that.
September 10, 201412 yr I like mowing because I have a big zero turn to ride around on. :whistling: I hated weed-whacking until I gave up on my previous (because it wasn't old) weedeater and bought an Echo. I am finished now in the same time it took me to start and mess around with the old one. Best buy I have made. The dogs like it when I mow the part of the field I mow because they can follow me all over and snoopervise.
