It's not about whether you win or lose, it's how you play the game...and conduct yourself after. Yes, everyone wants to win, but there has to be a loser. If you have had fun, played your best, and given your all, you are a winner despite the score! Be proud, don't bash the other team, and just move on to the next competition...Congrats BBHS volleyball team and Coach Pennie for a game well played!!

We may have lost tonight in 5 , as we all win some and we all lose some but I have to say that was the worst display of fans on the part of Bishop Brossart . Never in all my years coaching , playing , watching etc have I seen or heard anything like that from a bunch of teenage kids !! Sexual comments towards highlands players, brossart students on the bench with highlands players as they are trying to play, listen to the coach at timeouts drinking the hhs players water, running behind highlands players as they are serving, laying on the floor while the girls are trying to serve or go after balls. All while the principal stands there. I am so angry that people would allow kids to aren't like that. Anyone that knows me knows when I get angry especially when it comes to my children you better look out. I will be making a phone call tomorrow morning along with a few other parents.

I'm just trying to figure out what the deal was because these comments were so out of character for the Brossart kids that I know and knowing Dan Ridder, I am 100% positive he would not let anything like what was described occur.

No naming names! I'm not out to crucify the parent. Just trying to determine the facts before I respond to the post.

If the above actually did happen, then it needs to be addressed. Although them sitting on the bench and drinking the players water is kinda funny! We played BB early in the season and the football team did show up for the match. However, they were a lot of fun and both sides got into a great cheering war! They were hilarious and our girls enjoyed their banter and comments! Never did I feel like anything they did was inappropriate. I wish our student section was as supportive of our girls! Congrats to BBHS on a great match!

I find it weird that it irritated you that the players on the bench were cheering for their team. Especially a senior captain...it's called teamwork, motivation, leadership, enthusiasm, excitement and a love for the game. BBHS volleyball team is a class act, and I am proud to support them!!

The senior was yelling "Side-out" which is a very common volleyball term meaning that the team needed to end the serving and get the ball back. Not only do many teams yell this, even at higher levels, but some teams even go to the extreme of yelling "serves up" which is never commented on. I appreciated the energy boost and determination that she had to encourage her team. It's sad that people automatically think the worst and that she was yelling to be rude, instead of realizing that she was encouraging and leading her team.

The FB post is referring to the student section; not the actual players. I'm pretty sure he/she know what "side out" means.

These seem somewhat reasonable but a bit ridiculous that these came as a result of one parent complaint.

 

Good thing that Highlands mom that facebook ranted was not at the Beechwood/NDA game last night. I mean heaven forbid that Beechwood has about 30 BOYS in attendance, dressed in ominous BLACK clothes (it really hurt the Panda Posse's feelings as the theme was White Out for the girls), and some even had sports bras on . Then the cheering...OMG...they actually cheered for Beechwood when the girls did something good AND against NDA when they made a mistake. I think I even heard "We like Buck, We like Buck..." s/o to NDA Coach Buck McCourt. And then, to top it off, they chanted "We can't hear you..." to the Panda Posse who were outnumbered in all aspects of fan cheering. I am calling Beechwood as soon as I get finished typing this...Oh and I am logging on to my non existent facebook account to call out high school boys for supporting their classmates and showing some great school pride and spirit. How dare they?

The most interesting aspect of this is the thought (yet no rule) that fans have to be quiet while serving.

 

We don't see that when a kicker is trying to kick a game-winning FG or a shooter is trying to make a game-winning free throw.

 

Unless the students were using profanity or sexual comments then I'm also surprised the official made them be quiet.

 

Admittedly, I am not in tune with the high school volleyball scene. Just seems strange that there can't be noise during a serve.
