The senior was yelling "Side-out" which is a very common volleyball term meaning that the team needed to end the serving and get the ball back. Not only do many teams yell this, even at higher levels, but some teams even go to the extreme of yelling "serves up" which is never commented on. I appreciated the energy boost and determination that she had to encourage her team. It's sad that people automatically think the worst and that she was yelling to be rude, instead of realizing that she was encouraging and leading her team.

It's not about whether you win or lose, it's how you play the game...and conduct yourself after. Yes, everyone wants to win, but there has to be a loser. If you have had fun, played your best, and given your all, you are a winner despite the score! Be proud, don't bash the other team, and just move on to the next competition...Congrats BBHS volleyball team and Coach Pennie for a game well played!!

I find it weird that it irritated you that the players on the bench were cheering for their team. Especially a senior captain...it's called teamwork, motivation, leadership, enthusiasm, excitement and a love for the game. BBHS volleyball team is a class act, and I am proud to support them!!

I was there as well, and none of that is true. Mr. Ridder immediately stopped the students from cheering during serves, and spent most of the rest of his time by the students to make sure everything was ok. Lots of hype about a fun volleyball game. I think the cheering was fantastic!!
