LIT Ratings Disparity Among Regions

Featured Replies

Jim, thanks for the response. The problem though is that I am comparing the 6th place team in the 7th region to the 1st place team in the others. I didn't even bother looking at the top teams in the 7th versus other regions, but I'll wager that margin isn't "pretty thin".

In the 2nd and 4th it is, because there are traditional powers there. But the bottom line is what you are showing and what most knowledgeable hoops fans acknowledge is that the 7th is always one of the best, deepest regions in the state, along with the 11th.

So once again, using the "scientific" Massey Rating System now, the 7th place team in Region 7 would be...

The Favorite to Win:

Region 12

Region 14

Region 15

Region 16

and...

Ranked Second in:

Region 1

Region 2

Region 3

Region 4

Region 8

Region 13

Wow! Thanks for the eye opener mcpapa!:thumb:

I know a lot of Shamrock fans are football first and/or only. You aren't just now figuring out how good the 7th is in comparison to most of the rest of the state, are you? Because most of us have known for a long time. It's the same phenomena you see in L'ville 4A FB.

You're welcome! I can't believe that this is news to you, though. I've heard the same complaining/mock astonishment over on some of the other boards for quite some time now with respect to cross-country and track/field; basically begging for the rules to be changed to allow more Jefferson County athletes/teams in at the expense of those from the mountains.

...and what's your point? Are they wrong?

Nope. I always have known the 7th is a great region, but I just didn't realize there were this many poor basketball regions in the state each and every year. I figured this year was an anamoly.

Of course they are. The best from each region goes to the tournament, whether they're poor or not.

Sounds like Trinity needs to move to Inez if they're not satisfied with being sixth or seventh best in their region (just don't move to Fayette County).

In all seriousness, I would love to see Mason County and Trinity play again; the last one was a classic!

7th Region has 5 of the top 18 teams in the state!!!

Trinity, the 6th ranked team in Region 7 would be ranked accordingly in the following Regions:

Region 1: 1st

Region 2: 1st

Region 3: 2nd

Region 4: 1st

Region 5: 3rd

Region 6: 3rd

Region 8: 2nd

Region 9: 3rd

Region 10: 2nd

Region 11: 4th

Region 12: 1st

Region 13: 2nd

Region 14: 1st

Region 15: 1st

Region 16: 1st

As they say in real estate...location, location, location. The same thing happens in other sports. Male, St. X, Manual and PRP were in the same district in football!

Heres a power rating from Masseys of the top 30 districts/regions.

Let's even the field for these poor souls by spreading Louisville into say, eight regions.

You play the hand you're dealt. I don't think any person would ever say that the top 16 teams make the Sweet 16. That's part of the mystique. The state is full of unfair situations. Trinity is in a loaded region. Do you suppose it's fair that team like Henry Clay is at home because they had to matchup two top 10 teams in the first round of district?

"You play the hand you're dealt."

My point exactly.

Here's a team (Trinity) that has placed as follows in the most recent KHSAA state tournaments/playoffs/meets:

Baseball - semifinalist

Cross Country - 2nd

Football - 1st

Golf - 7th

Soccer - quarterfinalist

Swimming - 9th

Tennis - 4th

Track & Field - 1st

Wrestling - 5th

And there are still folks crying about the format of the basketball Sweet 16?

Sorry, but I'm just not feeling real sympathetic.

Why should you? Every year, you have an easier road to the Sweet 16. There's no reason for you to be upset.

I'm sure they're very upset, and they should be. Some of these regions are a joke, as evidenced by the Lit, Cantrell and Masey ratings. I guess it's analagous to the way the NCAA used to be when only the conference champs would get a bid.

Take Trinity out of the equation and insert any team in the 7th that finishes second through seventh. How about Fern Creek or Eastern? Or J-Town or Ballard? Or Male? How are four of those schools going to feel when they see Paintsville and Fairview in the Sweet 16?

Like they should have won their region so they'd have a chance to play Paintsville or Fairview.

Can you then understand why the Louisville football teams feel relatively unsympathetic when the whole "unlevel" playing field stuff rears it's ugly head time after time after time after time....?
