Does anyone know what the drone flying over the stadium was being used for before the game? Not sure if it was planned to be used the entire game, but I know crashed at least twice before play started. Given that, I imagine if it was intended to be used for something during the game those plans were cancelled.

 

I found this still hanging in the visitor's side today at Putnam Stadium. LOL A photographer from The Independent took a picture of it during the game. When I arrived today for the 7/8 grade games, it had survived the clean up. I guess even Ashland fans, staff can enjoy a good and funny sign.

From an Ashland fans perspective....Raceland may have very well been the best team on the field. Messer was the best all around player in the game. If he hadn't cramped up, I think the Rams win. The Rams played with a lot of heart for sure. I think most everyone, including myself, thought this one was over with Ashland up 41-20. Very impressive for a team to dig deep on the road and push Ashland to the brink. Good job Rams!

Nice win for the Tomcats and a solid showing for the Rams. I know moral victories aren't what you're looking for, but, if you can play with a talented and ranked 4a team, it bodes very well about what you can do in your own class.

Some thoughts on the game. First off Racelands passing game, as I expected would cause Ashland problems. Messer is a great player and athlete. As mentioned in the East Carter thread Raceland appeared to be a little pass heavy, which in my opinion led to the interceptions.

 

Racelands defense once again contained Ashlands running game for a good portion of the game. With the exception of a few breakaway runs (which will happen to everyone Ashland plays this year imo) they did an outstanding job of containing Ashlands running game. Again, as Raceland appeared pass heavy, Ashland appeared run heavy. That was expected from both, but if they can balance things out a little more I believe both teams will be great offensive teams.

 

As for Ashland, on offense they looked outstanding in spurts, but there were some bad balls thrown, which makes it hard to not play run heavy, which allows the defence to key on that. You could also tell the o-line is young, but I think they will be ok as the season progresses. It would be nice to see some screen passes in the future, with the speed Ashland has a short pass will open the field enough to let the backs run.

 

Ashlands defense was about what I expected. They did a decent job containing the run, but to Racelands credit, they gave up a lot of passing yards. Messer throws a good ball though and Raceland has a lot of options at wideout. Along with Racelands play calling, as I expected, the pass was available to them much of the game. The good news is that Ashland gained some experience against a good passing team, probably the best passing team Ashland will face in the regular season.

 

The game itself and atmosphere were all you could ask for for an opening game and more. If Raceland brings the heart and desire to win against everyone else they play I expect them to make a deep playoff run. After Ashlands big run, I along with some Raceland fans, thought they were done. But they fought back and put themselves in a position to win the game.

 

It was one of the best games I've seen in a long, long time. Goodluck to Raceland the rest of the way, ill be pulling for you to bring a championship back to our area.

Young had a tremendous off season and worked his tail off more than, IMO, anyone. The kid looks like a completely different person than a year ago.

Your right, I had him and Young mixed up. I'm not good with names until they have been pounded into my head over and over hah. They both played a great game.
