Holmes 21 Holy Cross 7

Final

Any details on this one?

Game was much closer than score showed... Lots of mental mistakes by both teams, it really could have gone either way. Holmes had to big reverses by #25 to put them up late in the 4th. HC did a good job on containing Holmes most of the night up until that point. Hopefully the boys at HC get it together by the time the 2A games come around they may surprise some people. However they have a tough road playing some bigger schools like SK and Conner and also 1A powerhouse Beechwood before then.

From looking at those stats, it appears Holmes needed to run the ball more.

34 runs to 10 passes and they needed to run it more???

Holmes probably should have won this game by 4 touchdowns.

They had two pretty pass plays that #6 Vickers dropped which would have gone for touchdowns. One was a long pass in which he had gotten behind the defense and Brumfield led him perfectly, but dropped.

Another was a nice play call on 4th and short where Holmes faked a quick pass and Brumfield hit Vickers in stride behind the defense but went through his hands.

You get those two scores and I think it is a different game.

Holmes has to eliminate their turnovers.

They would get some positive momentum on offense and then put the ball on the ground. Same thing happened against NCC in their scrimmage.

I saw #4 for Holy Cross on the sideline who is not eligible to play yet at Holy Cross. The name escapes me but he played at Holmes last year. I believe he is a sophomore. I heard he had a brother on Holmes team and they live in the same house. I'm not 100% positive on this, but one brother is playing for Holmes and the other is trying to gain eligibility at Holy Cross?

how did Holmes Linemen look? Did the big running back from Holy Cross play?

LeeCorso, not sure about 4TDs difference in this game. The game I watched could've gone either way. HC had bad turnovers deep in Holmes territory. Holmes dropped big passes. Both teams had fumbles. Both teams need to improve the mental mistakes. This game was very entertaining to watch, even with the mistakes. HC definitely had their chances. The Big Back at HC that everyone on here was talking about looked very out of shape and didn't like to move unless he was getting the ball. He should go to offensive line and help that group out because they need it. #4 looks impressive if and when he gets to play for HC.

As for Holmes, #10 looked very good and the Qb was pretty accurate. They are gonna be pretty good if they can bring it together. They won't hang with Highlands or CCH, but they can still have a pretty good and competitive team

Come on GT. Simple math. First of all, it was at least 17 pass plays. It may have been more if there were a couple scrambles in there. Second of all, they averaged about 8 yards per carry running the ball and scored all three TD's via the run. Do the math, think it over, then get back to me.

As was mentioned, two of the pass plays were sure fire TDs that the WR dropped, and you are adding stats that you don't even know exist. How can I do the math when you are changing the numbers on a game you didn't watch?

Holmes ran the ball all night and mixed in a few passes to keep the D honest...

How many pass plays did Holmes have?

Were Brumfield's carries designed run plays or scrambles off a pass play?

The main reason for my original comment is you have a back averaging 16 yards a carry who had 9 carries.

Looked at the stats wrong, my bad.

I can only remember two or three scrambles. Most of the passes were quick timing routes that didn't take long to develop, and he should have been 12-17 for about 250 yards.

Ross-Tyus was pretty quiet until the two long TD runs to put the game away, and both were misdirection plays out of the option that Holmes had been setting up all night. Arnold was the one running between the tackled when they pounded it at the HC front seven...

The HC RB played the entire game with a high ankle sprain. He shouldn't have played IMO.
