Another thing that will determine the Gordon case is if they go by the old policy or new policy. Pretty sure I read that if he was caught a few months later he was looking at more less a slap on the wrist. However, if they go by the old substance abuse policy that was in effect when he failed his last test then he could get the hammer. Going to be interesting to see how this one plays out.

Not sure what you're talking about. He'll be under the standard set by the CBA they are currently in and at the time he was tested and failed. Not sure how it could be judged any other way. Unless I misunderstand you.

They made a tweak to the substance abuse policy that lightened the punishment of a positive marijuana test. He failed his test for marijuana before the new ammendment was made.

Like many others I am disappointed on how long the process has taken. I am thinking 8 games too because that eliminates additional punishment to Gordon because of the NFL dragging their feet.

 

And frankly, screw Marijuana testing. Let the players smoke it if they want. Focus on more important issues like HGH, PEDs, and making sure criminal matters like domestic violence are in line with other penalties.

I am not a proponent of marijuana use because I have seen first hand what it can do to someone, but for professional athletes I'm more concerned with HGH and PED's than marijuana use.

Especially if the Broncos and Seahawks can legally purchase it. Smoke em if ya got em.

It's legal in Denver. I imagine that will be a point on the reefer side of the slate in the next CBA.

Agree, I am not promoting marijuana, just saying it's pretty benign for most NFL players (certainly no worse than alcohol) and the NFL has bigger fish to fry.

If we're talking about marijuana use, it's still illegal in the US. Too ban it from the CBA, a lot of people would be 'looking the other way' to take it out of testing. It may not be condoning the use of an illegal drug, but it would be.

I am not being smart here but you see the world as black and white when really it is gray.

I don't disagree with you, I do see it as black/white. It's illegal, as agreed to by our elected officials because of the health hazards associated. If you choose to partake, you are committing a crime. It seems pretty simple to me. Either you smoke or you don't. If you do, and you get a random, you serve a penalty.

Yes it is illegal in most places but it will become legal in more and more states and either way the NFL is NOT going to stop the players from smoking so they might as well cut their losses on this one issue and move on to what is really important.
