NKY Middle School Football

Cov Cath is no longer in the NKMSAA. They are playing in the GCL

What happened in the Walton vs Woodland game? How does a small school like Walton beat Woodland by 2tds. Is Walton that good or is Woodland just bad?

I was told that Highlands has three 7th & 8th grade teams that will take turns playing CovCath's 7th grade schedule..

And will pickup Holy Cross's vacated games. Kudos for both NKMSAA and the FTJFL to make sure the kids get to play the games. Because at the end of the day isn't that all that matters?

So now they are allowing "club" teams in the league?

So you are saying that Highlands should form a 7th grade & 8th grade middle school team? Are you sure you want that. You do know that Ft Thomas divides their teams up with a Blind draw/draft equally so all their teams will be competitive within. Not 1 of the 3 teams from Ft Thomas are stacked with a so called A-team or B-team like some others. Each player is rated at a position and is put into their position "Hat" by grade and drawn from that. Ft Thomas did strongly consider pulling all of their 8th graders and playing in the league with a team. May still happen down the road. I think this year was more of a experimental thing for both parties before moving forward.

Little bit of both. Walton is big and pretty athletic, and very physical, and is very good. Woodland only returns 1 starter and one other kid who got any significant playing time last year. Woodland isn't bad and will continue to get better. Walton should win the medium school, and could compete in the big school division, and maybe even win it. Turkeyfoot and Tichenor are the likely favorites in the big school division.

Who played the Thursday night game last night?

I am not saying they should do anything. It doesn't matter to me how they structure their teams. I was referring to how the NKMSL would allow CCH to pull kids from multiple schools to form a team, but when Ryle tried to do the same thing they would not allow it because they had kids from multiple schools. Both the Ryle and CCH teams were kids that would be attending the two schools, these were/are feeder teams. However, the NKMSL allowed CCH to join but said no to Ryle, calling them a club team because they were not a school team. Fast forward to now, they permit Ft. Thomas teams to join, when they are not a school team.

To be clear, NCC is in the same scenario as CCH in terms of draw. I can't say exactly why the NKMSL decided to say no to Union. But I will say this- to compare how The CYF draws from multiple schools to how The Union team does for their team is a little inaccurate.

The CYF draws from parochial schools like Blessed Sacrament, St Agnes, St Joe Crescent Spring, St Pius and IHM. Sounds like a lot right? Well if you factor that each school has maybe 25 boys per grade in it, it ain't so much. You might get 100 potential boys pooled between them all- so if you get 30-40 from each grade, that's a great thing.

Compared to Union who could draw from Grey, Ockerman and RA Jones- who pooled together I'm betting beat that number.

If I had a vote, I would have let Union in- but I understand why they didn't.

Now that the CYF is playing over in Cinti in the GCYL, they are no longer prohibited from taking public school kids in their program, which was one of the draws for them since Prior to last year there were several public school kids who matriculate to CCH but could not play football for CYF.

There have been references to the Fort Thomas league joining the NKMSAA. I believe they are just playing some games left from the void of CCH joing the GCL and Holy Cross not fielding a MS team. My impression is they are not competing for the league championship. Can someone in the know verify?

On a lighter note, any scores from Thursday night?

This is correct! We were told "Just Play Football" It's gets kind of old playing the same team 4 times in 1 season. My Ft Thomas team that I coach will only play 3 NKYMSL teams this year. That is hardly playing for a Championship. Now if Ft Thomas had one team and was playing all 9-10 games then I could see maybe they would, but the 2 schedules vacated by CCH & Holy Cross were picked up by Ft Thomas to be divided up between the 3 teams. We are just happy to play the games that were given to us.

Good point and I understand what you are saying....

Yes, Ryle has some kids at the three schools but hardly any at R.A. and Ockerman. They only allow kids that are in Ryle's district play for the Union team. I do not think they have a bigger pool to draw from than the Kenton County middle schools or Campbell for that matter, I am only basing this on them being similar in size at the high school level.

Good point and I understand what you are saying....

I did not intend for the first two sentences of my reply to sound like a smart but, I am not a wordsmith....
