Will Cordia sue the KHSAA? That's what I've heard.

Word around Hazard is Cordia plans on fighting this. Sounds like an end game. If they sue I'd say that neither party is going to come out smelling like a rose. Winner is who takes the least damage.

Here's what Alice Whitaker said to WLEX18 a while back.

Cordia Responds To Basketball Suspension | LEX18.com

"We have no comment at this time on the KHSAA sanctions. We are handling this matter through our lawyers, due process, and the courts to rebuke this unfair, unjust, and unprecedented ruling. We are going through the proper appeal process and will be going through the courts, because clearly the KHSAA has no interest in being a fair and unbiased authoritative governing body."

KHSAA ruled on July 28th. Said that Cordia would have 30 days to appeal. If they are going to appeal they'd have to do it soon, 10 days in already.

Cordia is doing nothing good for their program by this possible lawsuit. They are making themselves look even worse and acting like a spoiled rotten kid who got their lollipop taken away.

What an embarrassment they are and to be seriously thinking about suing makes them even worse and dumber than I originally though they were. It actually comes across as being very arrogant to think that they truly believe what they did was alright. I wish even more now that they would have been given the death sentence.

Paying (AND HELPING) moving kids?

What do you call a foreign exchange program?

Ok, you brought it up. Please tell us how many foreign exchange students Cordia had that didn't play any sport? I will even make it easier, how many foreign exchange students did Cordia have that didn't play Basketball?

Again, I'm no lawyer, and don't presume to even approximate one.

But is it just me, or do you think that Cordia will have to defend their own actions in court rather than attempt to try other programs? Will a judge even listen to a defense consisting of "Programs A, B and C did the same stuff"?

I'm with you. It's not the judge's duty to look into any other schools possible violations. in this case it sounds like the judge will only have to decide if KHSAA had any rites to bring down the sanctions on Cordia and show proof of the violations that Cordia is accused of.

Cordia can play the pointing finger game but 1. if KHSAA was not brought to attention any of the so called violations of the other schools then it isn't KHSAA's job to discover them on their own. and 2. Cordia knows the rules and must show that they didn't violate any of them.

Other than that, whatever goes on at other schools is a totally separate subject.

Any way you look at it, with all the rock throwing back and forth down there with the programs, the entire district sounds crooked to me and is an embarrassment if any of it is true.

Makes me even happier that Cov Cath won state this year.

Cksports fan you need to get your story straight before you get on here and spout these things. First the paying to move players was not anyone from miss. Or N.J. It was for moving Chris Hudson from Texas to Kentucky.they at claiming he moved here with assistant coach Larry willams at no cost to him or his family. Larry willams was his court appointed guardian in Texas before he came here. Larry Williams was not even affiliated with cordia until he came to ky. He was not a coach at the time he moved. As far a keta is concerned the birthday on his passport is 12-22-1999. That is total bull about him being 19. He has gone through extensive screening process in his political refugee hearings. They don't just make that stuff up. I have seen his passport and Mali I'd. All this started because certain people are p.o. Because oumar would not go to school where they wanted him to. I know you won't believe this but oumar gets dozens of texts daily trying to bribe him into changing schools. One local school offered him 20,000 dollars if he would enroll and go all 4 years. He is offered money weekly by other 14th region schools. And we have texts to prove it. I can get deep into this but it is late and I am tired. I will say this cordia is guilty of some of the Minor violations(ex: one coach coaching without taking his safety class) he has since been fired, but the rest of this investigation is totally one sided. It is all hear say and they have ruled against cordia and sanctioned them without even giving them a chance at due process. There is no due process in the khsaa. The khsaa is a joke. They have taken the word of 4 individuals (2 former players and 2 former coaches) all who left on bad terms and took their word as gold. When I know for a fact they interviewed at least 6 other people that directly refuted the other 4 statements and that was not included in the investigation. That will all come out in the wash. This whole thing is not what it seems. The khsaa is mad because cordia made them look like a fool in court the last 2 years and they wanted to try to embarrass cordia by jumping the gun and issuing a statement. I may be wrong but I think cordia gets a lot of these hear say allegations overturned in court. They will have some up held but none serious enough to warrant these reduclious penalties they have incurred on them.

The bolded part is all I had to read to discard the rest of your post. There is no way that is the only violation Cordia is guilty of. Cordia had how many players on their team that ....lets just say 5 years ago, lived outside the school district?

it's really sad that people actually try to defend this garbage, it's embarrassing. R Rhodes should be banned from ever coaching again in this state.

Do me a favor, I don't know the roster of the team, but apparently you are very close to the program and the kids/adults who played for them.

I'd love to know the roster and the birthplace of just the starting 5 this year. I take it that because the only violations were minor ones that had nothing to do with recruiting etc. and only minor violations such as a coach here and there not taking the safety class required, that the players, all the players or at least the majority of them like 4 of the starting 5 were all born and raised in Knott County...right?

I've been in contact with the Dieda Academy. You can facebook them if they want.

They responded to me and I had NEVER previously contacted them before.

They CONFIRMED -- TWICE -- it is the same kid.

Are you saying the birthdate on their website (which many American prep schools/coaches look out to try to get African players) was WRONG -- by four years!!!! --- and is STILL wrong, way before the visa was ever issued?

Um, OK.

My understanding was that Cordia had 9 players on the roster last season who were transfers.

HOWEVER, he is listed on a Canadian Basketball Academy website, just like Keita was on one from Africa.

Those two, plus Frimpong, just magically happened to show up at the same school around the same time and just happened to be basketball players yet were NOT recruited and were supposed to be luck-of-the-draw foreign exchange kids?

Um, OK.

Usually foreign-exchange kids are NOT from Canada. And are usually juniors or seniors. Never 8th-freshman-sophomore.

Red flags all around.

Cordia gets three -- or more -- in a short time frame like that and DIDN'T think it would set off bells and whistles around the state (and at the KHSAA)? Brilliant.

Cordia's rise, and demise, were its own doing. And fault.

Again the commissioner said most blatant offenses in the history of the KHSAA.

Right, but Cordia should at least get to challenge the motives of the KHSAA's witnesses if they are going to take the word of a person who Cordia had fired as the gospel. You think Hazard might be a wee bit nervous about what Hudson's guardian could say on the stand?

Not sure why Hudson's guardian would be on the stand in this instance. It's about Cordia, not Hazard.

And if it WAS about Hudson, shouldn't the hammer have come down on Hudson/Cordia/Hazard WAY BEFORE it did?

Don't think Hudson's guardian would even get called to the stand. Certainly not by the KHSAA. And how would he help Cordia's case since it ISN'T about any other school? Cordia is the one CHOOSING to go to court (if it does). Not Hazard, PCC, KCC, etc.

Proving other guys do it too will NOT help Cordia get off. If anything, it shows Cordia was TRYING TO DO THE SAME ILLEGAL THINGS.

You must have missed the part about the KHSAA relying on the word of Hudson's guardian. Going to be tough to prove up without him I'd imagine.

You think Hudson's guardian is the only person/way the KHSAA was able to pin all 14 allegations on Cordia? Um, OK.

Hudson has nothing to do with the Canadians or three guys with Mississippi ties or two more with NY/NJ ties or Keita's false paperwork ...

Thanks for the update on the witness list, poster who didn't know the significance of Hudson's guardian before this morning.

Cksports fan I am saying oumar keta's Mali I'd,his passport, his I 20, and his offical birth certificate says this kids birthday is 12-22-1999. I say other sites that had him listed as a freshman last year. That was wrong also. All I am saying is oumar keta is not 19 years old. I can go into detail about where this got started but I won't on this board. If you talk to oumar he will tell you he is 14 years old. If you have ever been around him you could tell he is not 19. Maybe my other post was taken wrong. I should have said the only concrete proof they have other than hear say evidence is the coach coaching without completing his medical symposium. Cordia has not done any thing any different than any other school has done. Thes chatohlic schools can take kids from all over and it is not considered illegal come on man all they are doing is cheating the system by using a loop hole. First off cordia has not done anything. The lotts creek community school(a non profit organization that is affiliated with the school. They are the last of 100 settlement schools still in operation. They have many community based functions. The treatment these players receive is readily available to all cordia students. Did you know any cordia student that graduates receives a scholarship to go to college. It is evaluated on a need be basis any where from $1500 to $5000 dollars per year. That system has been in place for at least 30 years. I graduated there in 1989 and I got money every semester I was in college. They provide clothing and furniture as needed to every student and their families and even in certain cases some people gets their electric bills paid in emergency cases. Cordia student have been staying in housing owned by the lotts creek community school since the 1950's and no not just athletes stay there. It is a really unique place that most people don't know anything about. The lotts creek community school a totally independent third party is what the khsaa is having a hard time separating the two. The lccs has been providing services for the school and the community for many years. Now all of a sudden that some of the kids are good ball players it is a problem. In years past when the kids couldn't play a lick it was not a issue.
