There are four teams on their schedule that propose any sort of a threat to them.

 

Central

Henry County

South Warren

Glasgow

 

I'm saying they go .500 in those four games at the very worst, and that's no disrespect to those schools. I just think they are that good.

They weren't going to be down for long. Those two bad years in 2011 and 2012, they were just down (even though they had the states leading passer and leading WR in 2011)....small numbers in particular. But, you are also talking about a school with very proud basketball and baseball programs...they were about as bad as they've ever been in a long time, too.

 

If there is a better RB in the 2016 Class...I need to see him. Here is Cecil's sophomore highlights from last year.

Yes he is very good witnessed him last year in person had one highlight against us. The only one though held him in check after that.

South Warren should be Top 5 and without question Top 10. They are returning 7 starters that were Sophmores last year. They also have a more explosive offense.

It's a definite positive, but top 5 is a bit ambitious before we see exactly how they handle replacing all those three year starters they just graduated. 8 graduated seniors represented 12 starting positions in that Paducah Tilghman game, and a few were three year guys. 4 of the 5 offensive linemen and 3 of the 4 defensive linemen graduated. Lost the only starter they've ever had at QB. The middle of the LB corps is gone which included the top two guys in tackles last year (and the leader the year before). Just a lot of question marks, especially defensively where South Warren made their hay last season.

 

The good news is that East should be improved, affording an opportunity out of the gate for South Warren to re-prove themselves, and then they have that tough road game at E-Town in September. After that we should have a better handle on the Spartans.

On offense they return 7 losing their QB (Warren), HB1 (J.Johnson), HB2 (Carr), and one Lineman (Nelson).

On defense they return 7 losing their DT (H. Hatfield) , NG (Duty), CB (Warren), and S (C. Johnson).

Of the guys lost Warren and Hatfield are the two biggest. Warren was Consensus All-State First Team at CB and a 3 year starter, he was a 2 year starter at QB and the vocal leader.

 

Hatfield, though severely undersized, was dominant at DT and Belfry's leading tackler. He wreaked havoc on opposing teams all year.

 

Though Johnson and Carr were the starting HB's and will be missed... the impact isn't bad there. Belfry was RB by committee and hampered by injuries all year. Xondre Willis was actually on his way to being the third Pirate feature HB before being lost for the season to injury and he is back. The Pirates workhorse was Finals MVP FB Austin Hatfield who is back. Belfry also added HB Deonte Joplin who transferred after rushing for 1100 yards and leading his team to their first ever playoff appearance.

 

The crazy thing is that for experienced as Belfry's defense looks to be the word is the Pirates may only have 2 Seniors starting on defense. Belfry was playing defense at a very high level in November.

Look out for Xavier Arnette at 6A Central Hardin. He is an absolute beast, Junior, 198 lbs, 6ft tall. He didn't have the yardage Cecil did last year but Central used other options as well. If you see him play live you will know what I'm talking about. In the Collins game which they won, he took over in the 2nd half. Got better as the game went on.

 

He's a legit D1 player. With Central having a new coach and moving to the wing t I think you will see Arnette's numbers go up. Good that we have these two in our area.

You forgot Austin Mclwain and Julius Allen. Bryan Cummings was a starter some games but easily could have been for the entire season.

You said sophomores, which Allen was not. McElwain is in my list and I mentioned Cummings as having rotated in. He did not start the Paducah game, as I said. And as much as South Warren passed, does it really matter who started at WR?

That may be true, but any experience at that position last year doesn't really merit veteran or "returning starter" status. It sounds by your description like it'll be a completely different ballgame for those guys.

I am also curious to see their new and improved look as well. They have the talent, can they corral it and make it happen. Even though it's a young program those kids have been playing ball since little league...correct coaching staff and time and South can be a competitive school. Now when they move into their correct class they will have to really get after it to compete with the correct size schools....
