Randy Moffett.

Was his last name King? I don't remember any pitcher with that last name from the 70's. There was Ray King from the the 2000's, but he was black

 

This was Randy Moffitt. He gave up a two run dinger to Perez in one of my most memorable Reds games.

Reds trailed 13-9 in the bottom of the ninth. Put up three to make it 13-12. Moffitt then gives up a two out, two strike Johnson to Doggie and the Reds win 14-13! I went crazy as did Nuxhall.

You guys are really good at this. I will have to think up a harder one. It likely won't be this one, however.

 

1. I was a career .300+ hitter who could hit to all fields with precision. I was, however, notoriously deficient on defense.

 

2. I had speed to burn - so much so that my nickname came from a Warner Brother cartoon character.

 

3. When Rico Carty was injured and then eventually traded, it paved the way for me to move into the lineup and I took advantage of the opportunity.

 

4. I once hit around .400 for the first half of the season and had 149 hits going into the All-Star break.

 

5. I once more than doubled my salary in arbitration , the first to ever do so.

Yes he did. He won one the year he hit over .350. In fact, the guy he replaced in the Braves lineup, Rico Carty, also won a batting title with the Braves a few years before I believe.

I think Jones was the only starting pitcher with a CY and a career losing record(thanks in large part to that 22 loss season and , of course, playing for the Padres).
