Baseball Trivia Game: I'm a Former MLB Player... Can You Name Me?

Featured Replies

This game will be similar to the one in my other thread except these will not necessarily be former Cincinnati Reds. I will give one or more clues pertaining to a former player and you try to identify him.

1. I am a former World Series MVP(I hit pretty well in my World Series' games) but I was known mostly for my abilities on defense.

2. I played on four NL pennant winners with the same franchise.

3. I was involved in one of the more freakish injuries in sports history. I was in the on-deck circle when a jagged piece of my teammate's broken bat hit me and punctured my esophagus and required immediate surgery to save my life. This incident prompted the invention of a device that many major and minor leaguers wear today.

4. Maybe I'm like the cat with nine lives. A few years ago I was involved in a serious freak car accident. Another car hit the median on the interstate, went airborne, and landed on top of my car. I needed a few hundred stitches and plastic surgery to put me back together.

5. My uncle is a pilot.

6. I once posed for Playgirl magazine.

1. I began my career as a starting pitcher but was converted to a reliever when I was traded to the team I am most associated with.

2. Clemente always had trouble hitting me and hence he recommended his team trade for me.

3. My signature pitch was the "palm" ball- the same pitch that Trevor Hoffman had his success with. It was the pitch that got me paid. In fact, I became the first reliever in MLB history to make a six figure salary.

4. My darkest hour--- A palm ball to Johnny Bench that helped cost my team the NL pennant. Bench had hit 40 HR that season, only one to right field. My palm ball ended up being number two.

5. I finished 4th in the CY Young voting and 6th in the MVP in my first season as a relief pitcher.

6. Sparky Anderson once passed me over for All-Star selection for his guy, Clay Carroll. However, Sparky tabbed me for the All-Star team two years later and I pitched a 1-2-3 inning.

I will DQ myself from this one and let someone else give it a shot...

Lol. I figured there was less than a 0.00000000001% chance that you wouldn't know this one!

1. I threw mostly "junk" up to the plate. Just call me Junkman. You might say I was a left-hand version of Bronson Arroyo.

2. How many pitchers can say they went from losing 22 games one season to winning 20+ games the next two seasons? I did .

3. How many can say they won a CY Young Award and still finished a career under .500 pitcher? I did.

4. I got the save in an All-Star game and followed that with the win the in the midseason classic the following season.

5. I made 90 grand the year I won 22 games, 15 grand the year I lost 22.
