Last night (Aug 6) Beatty said the freshman team has 80 guys.

Hard to say, if only because I don't know what to expect from Trinity's first couple of opponents, Ensworth (TN) and Carmel (IN). Certainly you can tell when kids are mentally into a game and if that looks to be happening, a lot of that sits on the coaches.

No. There's always some rectums who holler and groan and moan but none of the grown-ups. Bob is there forever and with full administration support. Which is what the administration says too. And everybody knows that some very young mistakes cost us a better season, eg, in the Ensworth game; when Reggie Bonnafon, now doing well in first practices at UofL, couldn't deal with the cramping in his hands any longer, Ryan Young came in and threw the gamewinning td ... which was dropped. Kids play h/s ball not pros. The game with 3-7 Lawrence Central was one of those games from hell where nothing goes right but LC, despite their record, was a sound team & good group of guys. Then we beat the eventual Indiana 6A runner-up Carmel (lost to Warren Central in final 7-6) and the Indiana 5A four-peater Indianapolis Cathedral. Then the embarrassments against Male (twice) and Colerain and Moeller. An almost totally new set of D coaches should help improve that area. It will be a better season and the Rocks will be loads of fun to watch. Also the grub at the concessions is pretty good.

Is it just me or with T be playing several guys at key positions with very little experience? If the comment above is accurate about the V being more like a JV team, shouldn't those guys have played a ton last year?

 

I think you misunderstood what I said above. Last year we had a very young team that played a very tough schedule. So this year we have MANY players who saw significant playing time returning plus a lot of talented young players. I think some losses last year will be avenged. I would bet Beatty is really looking forward to this season

I wonder if the rain will effect the scrimmage tonight?

Coach Beatty stated that tonight. We must have had a few absentees at the Team Picnic as I counted 65 bodies that introduced themselves. Coach Beatty also stated 110-115 Soph. Juniors and Seniors at tonight's gathering that included your Pop. :-)

 

Was Wednesday Night the Team Trinity meeting where the coaches talk about the season?

From what I am told, Bob is getting along fine with he new boss. Are you hearing the same? For the most part I think he and Rob Saxton had a decent rapport before Rob taking the AD position.

Also the grub at the concessions is pretty good.

Curious how the class of 2018 compares with 2016 and 2017 as they are pretty darn good!! Did he think they are better?

I think Beatty really likes his staff, too.

Green-white game was slightly underwelming from the offensive side of the ball. Was the defense much improved? The jury is out until Friday's match at Fort Thomas. The defensive players did appear to be in better position and recorded 4 or 5 interceptions. The QBs were under pressure. The offense was denied the end zone for much of the 1 hour 50 minute scrimmage. An estimated 600 attended and the weather was perfect for football. The threat of rain was always present.

I was told that Brooks and 5 or 6 others (don't know if on D or O) were not going to play. I thought the passing game looked improved. I thought the excitement level was high as shown by some hard hitting.

Outside of Cincy Moeller & Indy Cathedral, I truly believe that defense last night will be the best defense our offense faces all year, the quality depth of upper classmen at Dline & LB is staggering, playing the best athletes both ways has solved the defensive backfield & oline issues & the energy level, excitement & intensity on the defensive side of the ball is sky high, the new defensive coaching staff has really cranked it up. Get ready for a fun fun year, can't wait till Friday at Highlands!!
