What would you "strike out"?

Featured Replies

Recently a friend told me that their dad has a peculiar habit when he reads the newspaper.

"My dad reads the newspaper every day, cover to cover. His new thing is he crosses out Obama's name with a pen every time it appears in the newspaper. It's crazy. But not just Obama. He crosses out anything with Hillary or Pelosi, too. And LeBron James. Hates him. I don't know why."

 I laughed out loud picturing that in my mind's eye. Not because of who he strikes out, just because. I love guys like that and I started imagining my own dad doing some of the same.

So if handed a newspaper and a sharpie, what would be stricken from your newspaper? What do you think some of your fellow BGPers would remove? Or if you have that one family member, you know the one, what would he/she remove?

I'd hate to be the next family member that wanted to read the paper.

What's a newspaper?

Those things we used to get local news from.

Now we just don't get local news.

In the Sports section, I'd remove anything not related to basketball or football.

Dislike. Fringe sports are the best sports.

:puke:

I've actually managed to make you physically sick.

Mission accomplished.

:lol2:

I'd also scratch out anything related to the McConnell/Grimes race.

TAC would strike out all things soccer.

Necessarily we are all fond of murders, scandals, swindles, robberies, explosions, collisions, and all such things, when we know the people, and when they are neighbors and friends, but when they are strangers we do not get any great pleasure out of them, as a rule. Now the trouble with an American paper is that it has no discrimination; it rakes the whole earth for blood and garbage, and the result is that you are daily overfed and suffer a surfeit. By habit you stow this much every day, but you come by and by to take no vital interest in it -- indeed, you almost get tired of it. As a rule, forty-nine-fiftieths of it concerns strangers only -- people away off yonder, a thousand miles, two miles, ten thousand miles from where you are. Why, when you come to think of it, who cares what becomes of those people? I would not give the assassination of one personal friend for a whole massacre of those others. And to my mind, one relative or neighbor mixed up in a scandal is more interesting than a whole Sodom and Gomorrah of outlanders gone rotten. Give me the home product every time.

You mean every city can't just make money hand over fist by throwing up a Hard Rock Cafe and a few similar franchises, slap a mixed use tag on it and incentivize the hell out of the deal for the Cordish company, then give them more if they ask for it once things start going south?

I know...

Surprised the heck out of me too.
