Robert Downey Jr. Tops Forbes' List Of Top Earning Actors

Surprised by any of these? Dwayne Johnson being so high caught me off guard. Not seeing Denzel or Tom Hanks was unexpected too.

#1 ia a bit of a surprise, but I rarely go to the movies. Last thing I saw was The Hobbit, probably.

The most recent & the soon-to-be Batman being tied for 7th isn't a surprise either.

I remember reading that RDJ made something in the neighborhood of $40 or $50 million just for The Avengers, so I wasn't as surprised. I imagine he'll top the list next year too with the sequel to that film coming in 2015.

The golden age of the comic book movie has been a real boon to a lot of these guys.

That may be the least surprising name on the list.

Where is Downey earning his? Sherlock Holmes and Iron Man?

Big time.

How I'd love to get my hands on an issue or two of "Not Brand Echh", a short-lived satire by Marvel. Featured the likes of "The Mighty Sore", "The Inedible Bulk", and "Forbush Man".

Not seeing Denzel or Tom Hanks was unexpected too.

Those guys are great actors, but you need a billion-dollar movie like The Avengers to get paid $40 million per picture. The big summer blockbuster changed a lot of calculations 30 years ago. Now the massive international hit has really changed the math around.

And like I've seen elsewhere, you don't need beautifully-crafted dialogue to get people in China to line up around the corner for another Transformers movie...

Is this list for the past year? If so I can't think of a Blockbuster Denzel or Hanks have been in in the past year. Hanks was in Captain but that may have been before the time frame of this list.

Great points.

I believe it's for this past year, but not sure.

I don't think Denzel & Hanks have been in anything considered a blockbuster. I just thought they would be getting paid as much per film than just about anyone else.

I believe part of lead actors and actresses compensation is fixed up front and another part is directly tied to how well the movie does so as to encourage the lead actors/actresses to go onto the Tonight Show and Late Night, etc. to promote the show. So Denzel and Hanks probably are getting a healthy up front fee but if the movie does not explode in theaters, the part of their pay tied to movie success may be much more modest - relatively speaking of course.

Don't forget about Back to School residuals. :lol2:

Downey is a great actor. I can see him being on top of the list with Iron Man and all. The Rock is a big surprise for me. No wonder he quit WWE lol
