July 3, 201412 yr It's about fatigue, not who's used to playing during the day. Explain to me how day games make you more tired than night games. Sure maybe if the day games were played in 90 degree heat and 80% humidity but day games in Chicago the weather is no factor.
July 3, 201412 yr Cubs were terrible when everybody in the league played day games. I say hogwash. They've just been poorly managed from an organizational standpoint, historically.

Soriano was the class of the free agent pool the year the Cubs signed him. Like any Japanese player, they're an unknown. He wasn't a major free agent. Soriano was the worst contract in the history of the franchise.
July 3, 201412 yr Cubs were terrible when everybody in the league played day games. I say hogwash. They've just been poorly managed from an organizational standpoint, historically. I don't think anyone's saying it's THE reason, just a contributing factor.

If you've ever worked shift work or swing shifts, you can grasp The logic. Say you work 2nd shift for 6 weeks, but then need to pick up a couple of first shift days. A day or 2 after you go back to your normal schedule and adapt back to your body's clock pretty easily. Now say your schedule is every other day you work 1st shift and then 2nd shift. Your body can never get adjusted to it. So you're constantly tired or you simply can't settle into a routine. All the other teams typically have 24-48 hours between games. Heck last weekend I was at the Cubs/Pirates series. The Saturday night game ended close to midnight and the day game started at 1:20. I was tired and I didn't even play a game and I'm sure the players got to the field hours before me... Visiting teams do this a hand full of times a year. Cubs do it several times a month. That kinda stuff wears on you over 6 months. They no doubt suck this year and they typically do, but it's easy to see it's definitely not in the Cubs favor.

And the end of the day this is all Papi is saying. I don't see how it can't be a contributing factor. Your swing shift example is dead on. I just finished working swing shifts that changed weekly. I did that for about 3 months. Took me over a week to get readjusted to day shift.

You can fly to Japan, spend 4 hours at the bar, and still be productive. I'm still not buying it. :lol2:

Every team does Saturday night and then Sunday home day games. Every team does Wednesday night games home games followed by Get-Away day games on Thursday. The Reds have 50 home games at night this year the Cubs have 38. On top of that because of where Chicago is located and the time zone their travel schedule to other cities is easier than most of the rest of the league. Heck the Reds just had to play a night game in Chicago on Wednesday and fly to SF and play a night game on Thursday. Oh and the Cubs recently played a scheduled Day and Night doubleheader on a Saturday and were off on Sunday because of the Gay Pride Day parade on Sunday in Chicago. Cubs got 99 problems and Day games might be only 1 of them.
