June 23, 201412 yr The All A debate is tiresome. The Enquirer listed them because it's considered a championship for the state. It gives them a chance to recognize kids in their reading area. Who is harmed and how is this "sloppy reporting?"

Who is harmed and how is this "sloppy reporting?" As I said above, I simple footnote solves the "sloppy reporting" that Glyde is mentioning. I don't think it was per say sloppy (that IMO means there was an intent to be sloppy which I know wasn't the case) more of just a simple over site of true facts of the matter that about what the All A is.

To the average fan reading the paper it's a state championship. We're getting into "inside the Beltway" political debate here.
June 23, 201412 yr To the average fan reading the paper it's a state championship. We're getting into "inside the Beltway" political debate here. The bolded is where the issue lies though, its not a "State Sponsored State Championship." I agree with you average Joe thinks it is, but the fact is that it isn't. I simple footnote stating such ends the argument IMO.

I simple footnote stating such ends the argument IMO. Why is there an argument in the first place? It solves nothing. It proves nothing. All it does is diminish a team's accomplishment.
June 23, 201412 yr Why is there an argument in the first place? It solves nothing. It proves nothing. All it does is diminish a team's accomplishment. Not speaking for Glyde, but could the argument be that the teams accomplishment is misleading in the article? You stated above that to the average Joe it read as a state championship, but technically its not. The matter is very similar to the wrestling state championships with the Team Champion. The official team champion is crowed during the "KHSAA State Tournament." However there is also a Coaches association State Duals Team Championship, which is a separate event, not sponsored by the KHSAA. So who is the real state Team Champion? The KHSAA State Tournament Champion is. Does the State Duals Champion deserve to be honored, yes they do, but it needs to be noted that it is not an official KHSAA event.
June 23, 201412 yr No I don't think so. Since there's no All-A football tourney and the KHSAA already has established classes and official champions for football, I don't think football makes for a true comparison. I side with Clyde in that this is a very tiresome debate. I'm not sure why anyone is offended when a small school wins a statewide small school tournament and then proclaims to be the small school state champion. BTW, the class A tournaments are not invitationals, they are open to the 125 smallest schools in the state. It's enrollment based, not based on an invitation. King of the Bluegrass, Republic Bank Classic, etc, are invitationals. On the bolded, there is no class A football tournament? That's gotta be shocking news to folks at Beechwood and Mayfield. What the heck have those guys been playing for every year?

June 23, 201412 yr Maybe if the All "A" winners didn't participate in the rest of the season and ended their season with the All "A" everyone would be happy. Seems to me that most of those upset are upset because the school they favor isn't one of the 125 smallest and they in some way feel slighted.
June 23, 201412 yr Technically he's right. There is no All-A Football Tournament (125 Teams). There is a Class A Football Tournament (32 Teams). Technically it's an all A football tournament that lasts the season, isn't it?
June 23, 201412 yr Didn't expect folks to mention the All A champs being listed (except for RCC). Thought there would be a little mention of the catholic schools capturing 9 of the state titles. Beechwood and Highlands with the others championships.
June 23, 201412 yr I quit reading at "sloppy reporting." The All A debate is tiresome. The Enquirer listed them because it's considered a championship for the state. It gives them a chance to recognize kids in their reading area. Who is harmed and how is this "sloppy reporting?" When did you start reading again??
June 23, 201412 yr Author My opinion: championship for the state does not = State Champion. Now that I know the reasoning from RS, remove the word "shoddy" since it was a conscious decision to include them on the list, and not an oversight or error in reporting - even though I personally disagree with the decision. Invitational means restricted to those who have been invited to participate. When you run a private tournament only for certain schools based on enrollment, technically it's an Invitational Tournament. Ex: Campbell County has not been invited to participate in the All-A due to their enrollment. It's worth stating again the the All A is a privately funded, managed, and run tournament with no official KHSAA connection.
June 24, 201412 yr I don't think it's right that the Enquirer listed All-A Championships alongside KHSAA State Championships in a recent article sub titled "A look back at high school state champions in Northern Kentucky for the 2013-14 school season:" A salute to Northern Kentucky's champions I think this is very sloppy reporting. The All-A is an invitational tournament that excludes schools based on their enrollment. It is not the State Championship. You cannot list the CCH boys state basketball Championship alongside NCC boys basketball All-A tournament Championship. Same for NDA state soccer Championship vs NCC Girls' soccer All-A Championship. And I'm sure there are others. An All-A championship doesn't carry the same weight and it takes away from the true state champions by listing them as such. Either list only the KHSAA Champs or list every in-season tourney that every team won in every sport, because the All-A is just another in-season tourney. Welcome but this has been :deadhorse::deadhorse::deadhorse::deadhorse:

However CCHS would be championed across the state for winning the 6-A state football championship (The best of 32 teams); while the All "A" teams must survive a regional competition and a total of 120+ other teams to achieve their accomplishment?? Just sayin'???? I guess Highlands or Trinity for example, could claim the same slight, as they are eligible for being invited to only one Class in the State football tournament??
