June 16, 201412 yr ....I ask because I'm in the market. Nothing too extravagant, but have some questions if there are those who have experience.
June 16, 201412 yr Yes, all the docks rent houseboats. It is such a huge investment I think you should rent a couple first and spend some time on them to be sure you want to go that direction.
June 16, 201412 yr Author I actually have rented one but we didn't take it out. I have several friends that I've been on theirs and have one friend who will help me shop. I won't buy one without consulting him. But there are tax issues, coast guard vs. licensed in the state, utilities, heating and air differences. I have questions about the generator, outdrive, etc.

However, some people believe you shouldn't finance a toy. If you are in that boat, I can understand that.

June 16, 201412 yr In light of this thread, I think this had to happen: Spindoc Is Looking For A Houseboat...Let's Help Him Name The Boat?
June 16, 201412 yr If you are looking for a houseboat on Lake Cumberland I can hook you up with the right people and help you make sure you get what you are paying for....

However, some people believe you shouldn't finance a toy. If you are in that boat, I can understand that. Well, I need the deduction, so I'll likely finance some of it. However, we will be there throughout the year. My schedule allows 2 long weekends a month throughout the summer. There are some terrific deals on boats right now. And I've been impressed with some older models that have had upgrades. It's amazing what some look like after some work has been done. I'd like to have one with 3 to 4 BR and at least 1 1/2 baths and the wife insists on a washer/dryer. There are several that fit that bill and are not as expensive as you'd think, unless you want one under 5 yrs old. Some of the boats for sale are just ridiculous how nice (and pricey) they are. Nicer than my home by leaps and bounds, sans the grass to mow. If I was ever single, I'd have one as my primary residence, no doubt about it.

And I'd appreciate any help. My friend has one on Dale at Wisdom dock. Some of the boats I've looked at are on Dale but from what I can gather, not terribly expensive to move due to the close proximity. Especially when we are looking to put in at the dam
June 16, 201412 yr It can get quite expensive to move one if you buy one with a fly bridge, party top etc.

Actually we are looking at 2 there and my fave (at least by pictures) is on Dale Hollow. Of course there are several on Cumberland as well. There's one at Alligator 2, one at state dock and 1 at Beaver I like.
