June 17, 201412 yr I can't believe I'm about to say this (sigh) but I kind if agree with Mnt Ref. But with military. Here in Bucharest the Jandermaria, the Romanian military police, helps patrol everywhere. I would also like to see the military help patrol high crime, gang and hard drug areas. Illegal under U.S. law. The Posse Comitatus Act and the Insurrection Act pretty clearly spell out when federal troops can be deployed on American soil. Quite frankly, the idea of federal troops on patrol at all times scares the bejeezus out of me, but I understand where people are coming from. It always starts as a nice and friendly thing, but in a country where federalism is seen as a high priority by many of us, the idea of federal troops on every corner seems a serious problem over time.

They're ostensibly being called in to enforce federal law at the behest of a state governor, which is interesting from a legal standpoint. How can that happen?

That's why it would have to either be a much more beefed up Border Patrol or National Guard. I personally would prefer more Border Patrol and a better Fence/Wall to be built. I can't believe that a better wall can't be designed and built. Even though there was some mention of people with terrorist being caught at the border, I think the virtually open border is still one of the biggest security risk facing our country. I just hope it doesn't take a catastrophic 9/11 type of event for people to realize that to the point that Washington is forced to deal with the border and secure it.

June 17, 201412 yr While there really are not any stats to back this up, it is my understanding that MOST coming across the border WANT to work and would love to not need government hand outs. They are also willing to take the jobs many multigeneration Americans feel are below them and DO NOT want. I am more than happy to get those guys on the path to citizenship. Maybe start them out on a guest worker program, get them paying taxes even if their wages are so low that they really don't pay income taxes, who cares, they have to start somewhere. With the right work ethic, learning English, and some time, maybe they can get to the point of earning enough where they contribute to the tax base. I look at todays migrants not much different than the Irish, Germans, Italians, Poles, etc. who starting coming over in hoards a little over 150 years ago and they helped build the US also. I know many will say they are taking jobs from current Americans but just like the immigrants 150 years ago, when they take a job, they also become a consumer and consumers build the economy and build future jobs. Now, the Zetas who are sneaking in due to the drug trade, sending them back really doesn't accomplish much, they will just work their way right back, wall or no wall. Unfortunately, the only way to keep the Zetas out of the US may be nation wide legalization of marijuana. When several states legalized it, it supposedly noticeably hurt Zetas and other Mexican drug gangs. I am not thrilled about nation wide legalization of marijuana but I can't help to admit that the drug war has been a failure and I don't see winning it. So, if we legalize the least dangerous drug and that will save some tax dollars and hurt gangs, I guess go for it. Buddy of mine owns a construction company and he hates it when the subcontractors become "Americanized". Claims it's hard to get them to work the long hours, weekends and holidays that are often needed to bring a project in on time. Say what you will, most immigrants are some of the hardest working people you'll ever meet.
June 17, 201412 yr Heck yeah I am. It can be the Army National Guard, they are awesome. First of all it prevents terrorist from coming into the country and creating sleeper cells. Slows the drug traffic a lot. Keeps gang bangers from coming in. Helps slow down disease they bring in. Helps keep what few jobs that are available open for college and high school kids Helps slow down criminals from coming into America. I also put an end to any illegal immigrant from being able to use kids as a way to get citizenship and stop the if your born here you are a citizen. If your not legal then you are a citizen of the country your family is from. If they are legal here then fine, if not your not. Days are over for freebies. I will say you do give a chuckle every now and then. If Obama had done this I'm pretty sure this site would have stopped working with the amount of posts about him over reaching his rights, federal troops on the homeland, troops occupying major cities.
June 17, 201412 yr Nearly all members in Congress who oppose amnesty for illegal aliens are conservative Republicans. Unfortunately, the Republican leadership really, really wants to strike a deal with Obama on behalf of the national Chamber of Commerce. The leadership wants to deliver cheap labor to big donors and Democrats wants their votes. The only thing stopping a deal is that Boehner, McConnell, and their so-called leadership teams enjoy being "leaders" and they know that the majority of Americans, including a large majority of Republican voters are opposed to amnesty. That is why we have the manufactured refugee problem along the border right now. The children being held in shelters are nothing but political pawns in the war on common sense.
June 17, 201412 yr The last thing that this country needs is the U.S. Army occupying our own country. It is bad enough that Obama has been heavily arming agencies that have no business with loaded firearms - but I don't care who is president, I don't want the military patrolling American streets.
