July 15, 201412 yr I am still trying to figure how these thousands upon thousands of kids illegally entered Mexico, illegally crossed Mexico and were not arrested by Mexico during their 2,000 mile walk. Since Mexico is so keen on border enforcement - as shown with our citizen who took a wrong turn at standard border crossing who is still in jail - they should be stopping this wave at their southern borders and stopping most of this before it gets to our borders. This is a human tragedy caused by bad policies.

July 15, 201412 yr Here is my plan.... 1)Close the Border Tight 2)Deport all illegals that are proven criminals, three misdemeanors or one felony and your gone 3)Amnesty for those here wishing to work that can prove that they have gainful employment and start collecting taxes from them 4)Give them an ID and let them show it when they go vote 5)Anyone sneaking into the country gets 364 days of prison then deportation If the President of Mexico complains, smack him up side his head But that just how I'd do it I'm with you up until #5. Too much money would be wasted, IMO.

HHS backed off, citing things like insufficient access to drinking water at the facility.
July 15, 201412 yr I saw this segment while in a doctors office this morning. At least CNN is doing some legwork and showing the 'railroad' of illegal border crossings - literally. Part of the story is that lots of people are dying and getting maimed in their efforts to illegally 'immigrate' to the US. As stated above policies on both sides of the border are driving this. Mexico authorities does not notice people stacked on top of train cars for hundreds or thousands of miles? At best, a blind eye. Maybe more of silent support. You need to take your partisan passions out of the equation and realize that neither party can afford to alienate the Hispanic electorate. The ONLY way the issue gets dealt with is if someone transports and detonates a nuke using a border crossing. Otherwise, the political will is not there to deal with the issue.

Not sure if the current policy is favored by most legal Latino (mostly Mexican) voters since Mexicans are not directly, supposedly, benefiting from the current situation. The policy of returning almost no one who illegally enters the country is creating a magnet effect. Has the policy changed to create this magnet effect? But by allowing the policy to stand people are far more willing to take risks, serious risk of death, to come here - just like the Cubans who made home dingys and crossed dangerous waters to try to reach the beaches in Florida. People are dying every day in this situation. Is it 1 in 100, 1 in 50, or 1 in 10? Does anyone know? There is a real, human cost of the policies regardless of the politics. But maybe 'collateral damage' is not just war time term, maybe it is used in politics now.
