People want the Reds to hold on to Phillips, fully aware that they practically tried to give him away in the off-season and not a single team wanted him. I think that should speak volumes to his "value" at this stage of his career.

But if this team has any chance going forward he has to go. (along with some other poor contracts) I am officially off the Walt bandwagon. I think he's sucked.

I get it he has 10-5 rights coming up, and that he has a bad contract. But that is secondary to winning ball games. Do you really think he isn't an asset to this team this year? Look at his numbers. But if it's this year, they need him in the lineup. I will agree with you on Walt... He's got far too many bad contracts at this point for a team with good young talent, and MAY have missed a window for success by sticking with a manager for too long.

Strike while the iron's hot with regard to unloading him. I'm not a BP guy. I'm a win ballgames guy. Right now, we aren't in rebuilding mode, we are trying to win games. And if we are trying to win games, and don't go into rebuilding mode before the deadline, then I see no reason why we should get rid of him. No, he's not setting the world on fire, but he's occupying the 3 hole for us right now, hitting a respectable average, and of the Reds Top 3 lineup players coming into the year (Votto, Bruce, BP) he is the only one pulling his weight. Now, should we decide to enter that dreaded 'rebuild' mode, then sure, ship him off. But others will have to go as well.

June 10, 201412 yr What did they get in exchange for those guys? For Nomar they got Orlando Cabrera and Doug Mientkiewicz in a four team deal. For Manny Ramirez they got Jason Bay in a three team deal. They also gave up Brandon Moss and Craig Hansen. Each time it took multiple teams to pull of the deal but they were able to get it done. There will be a contender that will need Phillips and it is possible to improve the team overall even if it doesn't improve the second base position.
