June 4, 201412 yr 1996 - PG - Steve Nash / Allen Iverson SG - Ray Allen SF - Kobe Bryant PF - Jermaine O'Neal C - Marcus Camby 6 - Nash/Iverson 7 - Peja Stojakovic 8 - Zydrunas Ilgauskas 9 - Antoine Walker 10 - Sharef Abdur-Rahim 11 - Derek Fisher 12 - Stefon Marbury 13 - Kerry Kittles (only one not to be an All-Star, All-NBA team, or have 5 rings) Lots of star power at the guard spots with Nash, Iverson, Kobe, & Ray Allen. The class lacks big men who made a significant impact (i.e., in a way that separates them from the 1984 group), but Walker, Camby, O'Neal (probably the most promising, but ran into injuries), and Abdur-Rahim were all either All Stars or selections to an All-NBA team. In terms of a team, do you really see this one doing anything but imploding. You have Iverson, Bryant, and then you bring in Marbury and Walker off of the bench. That's a combined 150 shots per game right there.
June 4, 201412 yr Most of the drafts from the 1990's into the present which haven't been mentioned already have been pretty horrible, save a few. So far, we've mentioned: 1996, 2003, and the possibility of 2012. Otherwise, there are a few worth looking at: 1998, 2007, 2008, and 2010. I think it's interesting how many of the loaded drafts are close in time to one another. 1998 is top heavy, with lots of star power but not a lot of depth. 2007 is one of the weaker "good" drafts of the era I looked at, but has Durant surrounded with a bunch of other guys who are really solid players but also underrated. 2008 has a lot of juice when you put the trio of Rose, Westbrook, and Love together with a ton of capable bigs; if they had more balance at the guard/wing positions, we'd be talking about them as one of the very best. 2010 has a lot of potential, maybe as much as 2012. It's really balanced, as none of the top players have the same roles/positions. At the same time, neither Wall, Cousins, or George have elevated their games to the level of a LeBron, Durant, Duncan, Davis type that will be a candidate for the league MVP in any given year. Still, they look like a team that you would have actually built to play together. 1998: PG - Mike Bibby SG - Paul Pierce SF - Vince Carter PF - Dirk Nowitzki C - Nazr Mohammed (???... weak class for bigs) 6 - Rashad Lewis (former All-Star) 7 - Jason Williams (talented, but reckless for much of his career) 8 - Antawn Jamison 2007: PG - Mike Conley SG - Rodney Stuckey (good career averages) SF - Kevin Durant (jewel of the class) PF - Al Horford C - Marc Gasol 6 - Joakim Noah 7 - Tiago Splitter (still emerging) 8 - Wilson Chandler 2008: PG - Derrick Rose (NBA MVP... might not be the best in the class though) SG - Russell Westbrook (3rd option) SF - Dino Gallinari (good career averages) PF - Kevin Love (probably the gem of the class) C - Serge Ibaka 6 - Roy Hibbert 7 - DeAndre Jordan 8 - Brook Lopez 9 - OJ Mayo 10 - Courtney Lee (solid career averages) 2010: PG - John Wall SG - Eric Bledsoe SF - Paul George PF - Larry Sanders C - Demarcus Cousins 6 - Lance Stephenson 7 - Greg Monroe (nice career averages)
June 4, 201412 yr Nothing with a player from UNC on it is worth a crap. #DukeFanFoLife Hahaha, gotcha. I thought you were saying I had left Barnes off or something like that.
June 4, 201412 yr In terms of a team, do you really see this one doing anything but imploding. You have Iverson, Bryant, and then you bring in Marbury and Walker off of the bench. That's a combined 150 shots per game right there. If I were coaching that team, I'd start Nash. I'd bring Iverson off the bench with the second unit and just turn him loose (in the sense of how NBA teams do their rotations now). Having Walker and Marbury would probably be detrimental to an actual team, I just name them because they were All-Stars. If we're talking about a healthy Marcus Camby and Jermaine O'Neal, the 96 team is a really talented one. Agree that if it really were an actual team of those 13 guys, and that all of them were on it, there'd be stabbings over who got the ball.
June 5, 201412 yr After looking at it, 1966 was pretty good w/ a five HOFs PG Nate Archibald 2G Pistol Pete SF Rudy Tomjanovich PF Dan Issel C Dave Cowen PF/C Bob Lanier PG Calvin Murphy Wow...thats a pretty darn solid 7 there thats probably overlooked as a draft class. Maybe not the greatest defensive group, but they would score the ball and i coud see this group playing well together. Rudy would have probly been a borderline HOF player I think pre-Kermit Washington.

June 5, 201412 yr Author Just looked up stats for Rudy T. Says he was drafted in 1970...not 1966. I think it was a typo, I think they are all 1970
June 5, 201412 yr I think it was a typo, I think they are all 1970 They are all 70. Cowens graduated from New Catholic in 66. I messed up.
June 5, 201412 yr 2014 may make some noise one day also. Yeah I think people built them up way too high and led to the crash of the hype train surrounding the class. Wiggins was built to be super human and Jabari had already been cast as the best since Lebron. People saw some flaws and a back injury in college and all of a sudden the sky is falling. When it is all said and done I think the 2014 draft is going to be as good as they said it was going to be.
