South was 13-of-28 from 3-land, Corbin was 9-of-17

SL hit 15-of-26 foul shots and corbin hit 5-of-8

 

The big stat was Corbin's 18 turnovers, which resulted into 27 points for south. The Cards' bench outscored Corbin, 21-8.

5 of 8 and 15 of 26, I would call that an important stat and South's coach was working the referees every opportunity even when South was ahead by a score of 66-33 and the starters still in the game!

I remeber Coach Deaton telling me...it's no wonder this place is so historic and they never get beaten here after seeing what happened tonight. This was a travisty for high school basketball in the state.

Jst sound like a disgruntled fan to me. A lot of those fouls and freebees came late in the game when Corbin fouled. I see nothing wrong with keeping the starters in when they were not atatcking the basket, while running a stall offense in a live game situation. That experience might help them down the road.

Don't worry, the Lady Hounds should get revenge tommorrow.

If I'm not mistaken, Crawford didn't take a shot in the 3rd quarter of the 2nd meeting either. Does Corbin just go away from him and someone tries to be the hero after the half or is it due to South wanting to do everything in their power to contain him after the halftime break, then once they get a little lead, back off some? I've not been able to figure out him not gettin any shots in the 3rd quarter of key games.

 

I think that Coach P. did not want him to have to bring the ball up the floor against the press to try and keep him fresh. Goodin was so physical playing defense on the ball that it totally disrupted the offense for a stretch and Crawford never touched the ball. So during the 4th, he went ahead and did what he could do to get them back into the game, which I'm sure that we will see more of if we are fortunate enough to meet South again.

 

Corbin was guilty of forcing some ill-advised shots during a couple of stretches by trying to take it to the basket to draw fouls, which did not work.

South won due to having alot of weapons and their hot shooting. Corbin did not adjust to the physical style of play and as a result South was able to establish a very big lead. Hats off to the Corbin players for showing the resolve and pride to fight til the end. Winning the district is but one goal. The bigger prize awaits next weekend. Keep you head up Hounds, find a way to win a couple of games and maybe you will get another shot at the Cards.

It never fails when someone loses they always got cheated, but hey its been 8 years ago get over it. and I remember plenty of games where you all have jipped the Tigers. O and Im sure the refs got right over their beside Corbins fans and planned how they were going to "cheat" you all..that statement makes me laugh.

I wish I had that game on tape I would love to rewatch it.

If it doesn't kill you it makes you stronger and Corbin has gotten stronger each time. All I can say is let's wait and see how it turns out the next time they meet.... next week!

I agree that we sure don't want teams to pull the starters against us, the last 10-15 seconds to get them into the game was enough for me.

 

South went to the stall with around 3:00 to go in the game, not the entire 4th quarter. Corbin sent South to the line 4 times for 8 shots after they went to the delay.

It was a very impressive performance by South Laurel tonight in the finals. They are an extremely good team, and if they play at the same level over the next three games, they will easily win the 13th Region.

 

I was equally impressed with the effort that Corbin showed tonight. South had a chance to really blow this game out, but Corbin showed their pride and tradition and wouldn’t go away.

 

If South is allowed to play the physical style that they did tonight most teams in the 13th will have trouble competing with them.

 

I liked Tony Pietrowski's style tonight. He had the Bruce Pearl suspenders on tonight. I know he can't wear the Orange Coat but maybe he should call up ol Billy Hicks and get him a Red Jacket for region to go with those red suspenders.

I also enjoyed Coach P’s suspenders tonight. If only I could turn him into a Kentucky fan.

 

Great effort by both teams tonight. I for one would love to see the rematch next week in the finals. Big thanks to Coach P, his staff, and especially the players for never giving up. You made the Redhound fans proud. Keep up the hard work and good luck next week at the region tournament. :thumb:

That was a South Laurel fan doing the complaining about that game, not a Corbin fan. I would much rather have the game officiated like the Corbin/Clay Co. game as opposed to the Corbin/South game.

THis years game at Clay was pretty well called, look forward to a exciting regional..

I was discussing with some friends tonight at the game and also had it brought up by someone else of an interesting analogy. South Laurel is awful similar to Duke in many aspects of the game. First of all, the comparisons begin with the fact they are obviously more talented than anyone in the conference (region). Secondly, they aren't the most popular bunch on the block. As for the in game comparisons.

 

1. Coach Wright is a lot like Coach K when it comes to staying on and working the refs to his favor. I don't consider it cheating, I just consider it an intimidation factor.

 

2. Due to reason #1 South can get by with some extra stuff such as bumping, hand checking, slapping, grabbing, ect like Duke does.

 

3. Both feature a great player who will either score (most often)or be bailed out by drawing a foul be it phantom or not, Ty Proffitt/JJ Redick.

 

4. Both teams feature a post player who only show emotion when they are extremely fired up and don't let the hype get to them (Walt Allen/Sheldon Williams. Both are not afraid to get their hands dirty and go to work. Hard working, humble, and classy.

 

5. Hammonds= Daniel Ewing/Duhon from past Duke teams. Always is overlooked but is the key component to keeping the teams winning ways alive.
