South outcoached and outplayed the hounds tonight. Corbin cut a 30 point lead to 12 or 13 when they went to man late. It appears that they stayed in the zone too, too long. South took what Corbin gave them and shot the lights out.

 

I thought that Corbin's defensive game plan was the best route to go, it obviously did not work out the way the coaches would have hoped.

 

You have to pick your poison with a team like South that has a strong inside game and capable outside shooters. I would have to take my chances giving up the 3-point shot to a team that is shooting less than 35% behind the arc as opposed to letting Allen and the others score easily inside. If they shoot their average pct.on the 3-ball, they score 18-21 less points on threes and pick up a couple of baskets on put backsi n this game, so if they meet again I would have to play the percentages.

 

Corbin also hoped that by playing the sagging zone that they could break even with South on FT's and stay out of foul trouble, but it did not work out that way as Corbin had 3 starters foul out and Crawford played much of the 4th quarter with 4 fouls. The whole team may have fouled out if the Hounds would have tried to press, trap or play man-to-man any more than they did.

I agree with what you are saying but it was obvious from the get go that it was not going to work. I was thinking that he could switched defenses and had more success. Corbin can play man to man, but they do struggle on the preimeter at times so the zone was a good idea, but he should have mixed it up, particuliarly when they got down so far.
