What Do the Reds Do with Big Pasta?

Featured Replies

That would be 4. I don't know how many were one run games.

Hoover has 4 losses & is single-handedly responsible for 3 of them.

April 5th at New York Mets: Reds lose 6-3. Hoover comes in, gives up a hit, walks 2 batters, then gives up a walk off grand slam to Ike Davis.

April 21 at Pittsburgh: Reds lose 6-5. Hoover pitches 1 inning, walks 3, gives up 2 hits & 1 run. I think Ike Davis hit a Grand Slam in this one, too.

April 27 at Atlanta: Reds lose 1-0 in 10 innings. Hoover comes in, pitches 2/3 of an inning, gives up 2 hits & gets replaced by Manny Parra. Parra gives up the GW run which is attributed to Hoover. It's tough to blame this one on Hoover since Reds didn't score...but he had no business being in the game in a critical situation.

May 7 at Boston: Reds lose 4-3. Hoover comes in, gives up 2 hits, walks 2 batters and gets ZERO outs. Boston scores a run (I think it was the bottom of the 8th) and goes on to win.

That's flat out AWFUL.

Could be a valuable piece at the trade deadline.

I agree. But to get a good stick, he'll have to be packaged.

For sure but it's a start.

I don't know what he should do in the pen.Make him the set up guy? Or bring him in the 6th if a starter is struglling but still has the lead and let him throw 2 innings as a long reliever?

The BP has been weak, the addition of Simon makes them better, a natural fit.

Broxton is the set up guy & Chapman is the closer.

I would like to think thats all subject to change. I have so much more confidence in Simon than Broxton

There are several issues surrounding Simon. Obviously, he has been a great asset thus far & I'd like to keep him in the rotation if possible.

With that said, consider Simon's career numbers. His career high for innings pitched is 115 in 2011. During his previous 2 years in Cincy, he combined to throw roughly 150 innings (61 & 87). He has already thrown 58 this year.

In all likelihood, Simon won't be able to remain in the rotation past the all star break.

This.

Sounds like Jocketty is entertaining the idea of leaving Simon in the rotation & moving Cingrani to the bullpen.

Latos is expected to make two additional rehab starts.
