Hump Day party with a camel cancelled for fear of hurting Middle East feelings

Featured Replies

First we can't have an all you can eat taco bar since Mexicans complain

Now we can't have a camel for fear of offending Middle East culture feelings

Liberal political correctness has destroyed America. We are so afraid of hurting a feeling or two. Meanwhile the Muslims are killing Christians just because they are Christians. But we can't have a camel over for a party or eat tacos on Cinco De Mayo.

Have a hillbilly day and see what I say, wait, I will go because I am one. We need to take America back and quit being so afraid of hurting feelings. We can't have camels but they can kill Christians.

I thought that was every day in Eastern Kentucky.

You got me here. I can't defend this one. Although, I'm not a fan of Camels. I discovered I was allergic to camels after I took my kids on a camel ride at the zoo about 12 years ago.

Let me get this out of the way so as to not distract from the rest of my post: This camel thing is pure silliness. Had someone been riding it imitating an ethnic group then you can have a debate. This? Nothing.

With that:

How has political correctness "destroyed America?" Give me some concrete examples.

What does "take America back" look like?

Take America back means stop being so afraid of being insensitive to people. I mean no tacos since it was insensitive, some groups need to lighten up or toughen up. It's called in the name of fun, no one in America is out killing Muslims since they are Islam or running groups out based on ethnicity.

I do think that political correctness has gotten stupid. I am entitled to my opinion and views and as long as those opinions and views are not keeping someone else from realizing their freedom, then let it go. I'm not talking about being derogatory or threatening, I'm just talking about not apologizing for being a certain gender, race, background, profession, etc….

I don't give a flip if someone doesn't like my opinion on something…having said that, I'm also wise enough to not go spouting off in situations that could be an issue for me professionally, or personally.

Seems every time someone in America gets their feelings hurt, someone has to apologize….that's bush and I'm over it.

Taking back America SHOULD mean being friendly and kind to each other, rather than "I got mine and to heck with what anyone else thinks." That was how my grandparents and great-grandparents lived. They didn't have much, but they helped their neighbors and were just honest to goodness real people.

Aren't you always leading the charge against people making jokes about or being critical of Christianity? Couldn't they say you're being sensitive?

That's the thing, people are allowed to make fun of Christianity but no other religions, especially Islam. Our Christmas trees and manger scenes are taken away but threaten to take away a prayer rug and see how much uproar is raised.

So how do we get rid of the problem if no group will lead by example?

Did you answer his question?

True story.

I had a roommate from Iran for a year while at Morehead in the mid-1970's. First time I saw him he was kneeling on the floor facing the east and touching his forehead to something on the floor.

We got along famously. Only thing we had to get clear is that when we bought a dozen eggs (and the little dorm-sized refrigerator egg tray only held 6), his 6 eggs went in the closet and mine stayed cold. This after he told me on our first trip to Allen's IGA that "eggs stay good two, three week".

How about the UCLA (by some students) attempt to stop students from voting in their senate because they visited Israel? Or that candidates for office are being asked to sign anti-Israel pledges?

So how do we get rid of the problem if no group will lead by example?

My answer would be to stop pandering to the issues. I think the media has a great deal of the responsibility for this. Stop sensationalizing issues and giving air time to issues that will work themselves at at the local level. If most of the issues that make the "news" were left to their own, they would either fizzle out on their own, or resolved by the people involved.

Christians are not allowed to lead by example, we will then be accused of pushing religion on someone.

Did you answer his question?

I ain't sensitive, I bout don't care anymore, no one else does.
