May 23, 201412 yr If Burfict goes down this team is in trouble. The majority of teams in the NFL would place our LBs, other than Burfict, at 2nd or 3rd on their depth chart. As for draft picks at LB who have made an immediate impact simply look at Burfict. He was a projected 1-2 round pick and went undrafted. You will see a glaring need for a better LB than what the Bengals currently have if Burfict gets hurt and if you pay closer attention to when opposing offenses run away from Burfict we have to count on DBs who fill rather than LBs. I'll simply draw the conclusion that your opinion of the importance of the LB position differs from mine. And lighten up a bit fc, the YTD concept is in jest to make light of the fact that our LBs other than Burfict are mediocre. The Bengals chose to strengthen other areas in this draft. I hope their decisions lend themselves to a playoff victory this season.

That aside, the Bengals have a bunch of young LBs and I believe they are counting on a couple of them to emerge which is why LB wasn't a priority in the draft.

They have a backup in vincent ray that proved he honestly may be one of the better backups in the.nfl and honestly has a good case to start over rey rey. They also are very very high on lamur because of his size and speed. He showed lots of promise his rookie year but had a season ending injury last year same with the guy they drafted last year. So while those two have to prove their selves they do know the system and with lamur they have high hopes for him. So they have guys who already know the system who probably better off than a drafted rookie this year who is also unproven but doea not know the system. All.teams have areas that can get better at. Because unless you have all pro bowlers at every position you could always say they could get better at a given area. However it does not make it a glaring need as you had said. There is a difference between just needs to try to get even better at a spot and a glaring need and that is where I think we differ at in what we consider a need or a glaring need.

I didnt see any glaring needs as he stated. You could always try to improve in areas but it doesnt mean its a glaring need. Plus as mentioned they really like their young linebackers who are already there.

You never did address the "glaring need" concept with the OL and the drafting up concept. :loll: As for you and gurus angle on the LB status of this squad I sincerely hope both of you are correct on the youth movement getting it done.

Im pretty sure I did address it when I said them waiting until the fourth round really doesnt support your glaring need stance. It seems to me if it was such a glaring need offensive line would have been.all the talk about what they HAVE to get. Yes was adding offensive line a need? Yes. Was offensive line a glaring need? Nope. Otherwise it would have been addressed earlier. That had a chance to fill a basic need they wanted and had a guy targeted so they got him its no more no less. If something is a glaring need as you said they would have drafted for that glaring need for someone rated highr. As for the linebacker thr youtj movement may or may not get it done. You realize you are saying they should have drafted one in the second round. However that guy would be young and unproven and no guarntee either. So since they.had young guys who already know the system it made it not a glaring need. We clearly differ on our definition of a need and glaring need lol.
June 2, 201412 yr Bengals have 2 monsters at running back Wilder and Hill. Just seen them at the Bengals Youth camp they both look like they are over 240 pounds.
June 3, 201412 yr We finally drafted a good qb he is the 7 on 7 qb and tossed my son a pass. He gets my vote.
June 3, 201412 yr The way the NFL is played today the LB is devalued anyway. More and more teams play only two LB's on obvious passing downs and spread offensive sets and teams. They have to have hybrid types to cover the tight end of today and the scat back that plays on 3rd down and spread offenses, thus the value of Lamur and Vinnie Rey. Burfict is just a stud that plays with fearless abandon, like no other we have had in a long time, so you can't ever take him off the field. Sure, if they lose him they will be in a world of hurt, but they aren't going to find another like him for a while, because they aren't out there very often. Rey M. is probably on his last year as a Bengal if Lamur and Vinnie produce plus Schaeffer, They know what they have in Rey M. and how to use him, but have to know he is a liability. I think they are rolling the dice with the young players, but I agree with their thinking of 4 down rushers that can get to the QB and a bunch of serviceable solid DB's.
June 4, 201412 yr Today at the Bengals camp was all the rookies on defense. Clark is very tall, Denard is built bigger than a safety. This team is going to be good I believe.
June 4, 201412 yr I stand by my ongoing commentary from last season that the offensive line needs help. I like the center they picked. Who starts at left guard? The line couldn't protect Dalton. The reason Dalton struggles in big games is the line can't protect him. Fortunately for them Dalton is very good at getting rid of the ball and not taking sacks. A big reason why the Bengals flop in the playoffs is their offensive line can't get it done against good teams.

The reason Dalton struggles in big games is the line can't protect him. Fortunately for them Dalton is very good at getting rid of the ball and not taking sacks. A big reason why the Bengals flop in the playoffs is their offensive line can't get it done against good teams. The line was at its best with Whit at guard, and Collins at tackle. You won't get any arguments from me, and that is still the one move I am not happy about. They should have made sure Collins didn't get away. If I had to guess on what the starting line will be next year is: Whit at LT, Pollack at LG, the guy they drafted at C, Zeitler at RG, Smith at RT. Which won't be a great offensive line, but it won't be horrible either. It should be solid. The one good thing is most of those guys are better run blockers. So if with Hue probably running the ball more in those bigger games, it should help the pass protection when they do pass in the big games.
June 6, 201412 yr ^I will add this though, Dalton does play a big role in not playing well in big games. He presses way to much in big games. The Monday night game against Pittsburgh on the 2nd game of the season is a perfect example of that. He was so dang hyped up for that game, he came out sailing passes everywhere and not accurate at all even on the short routes. He needs to learn how to keep himself calm in big games too. I honestly thought in the first half against the Chargers in the playoffs was the most calm I have ever seen him in a big game. I even mentioned that at halftime at the game. However as soon as the Chargers got the lead in the 2nd half, he went back to pressing instead of staying calm and playing within himself.
