My favorite international food is Thai and a typical menu is listed below. What are some of your favorite foods from around the world (or from around the country if you think American cuisine is supreme)?

 

Soup: Tom Ka Gai (Coconut Chicken Soup)

Appetizer/Salad: Larb Gai (very hot minced chicken salad)

Entree: Panang Chicken Curry over basmati rice

Dessert: Sticky Rice with Mango Slices

 

My favorite All-American dinner:

 

Soup: Cream of Crab soup from the eastern shore of Maryland

Salad: Mississippi Comeback Dressing over Gulf Shrimp, Lump Crabmeat and Lettuce

Entree: Shrimp and Grits

Dessert: Strawberry Shortcake with Fresh Whipped Cream

Theirs is a pretty good substitute. Where else in L'ville can you get Cajun/Creole food?

Agreed that it's a pretty good substitute. I haven't had it yet, but I've been told that Joe's OK Bayou is pretty decent. It's off Hurstborne Lane, and an easy drive for lunch from my office here in Middletown. I keep meaning to try it, and then forgetting.

Favorite ethnic food? I have one short answer.

Forgive my ignorance, but I've never really had Thai food. I love the Thai Curry sauce at Bdubs though....Is that anything remotely close to the flavors of Thai food?

Been there a few times. I like it just fine and would recommend it if looking for Cajun. Of course, not gonna find a lot of Cajun laces in the area anyway.

Guatemalan food is really good. It's pretty similar to Mexican food, but has some distinct things about it as well.

I have tried the BDubs Thai Curry sauce but it has been a few years ago, so I can't really vouch for its authenticity. Thai food is hot - not spicy - but the kind of hot that can make sweat bead on your forehead. Most of the heat in Thai food comes from chili peppers and many of the dishes, including the curries contain coconut milk as a main ingredient. Fish sauce is also a common and distinctive ingredient in Thai dishes that adds add salt to the food.

 

I have seen Thai restaurant menus that warn that there will be no refunds if you order your food "hot." Depending on the restaurant, I stick with either "medium" or "hot" curries - I've never been tempted to order food "Thai hot." I like my taste buds working during my entire meal.

 

Besides curries, noodle dishes (Pad Thai is the most popular), and stir fries are also very popular.

My dinner tonight came from BonChon Fried Chicken. If you like fried chicken and you like spicy food, then you owe it to yourself to try Korean fried chicken if you get a chance. BonChon's has wings, drumsticks, and chicken strips that are fried crisp with a thin batter, then drenched with your choice of a spicy soy garlic or a hot sauce.

Thai Food - Simply Thai in Louisville is as good as it gets.

Fried Plantains for breakfast is a staple in DR….sweetest breakfast food without added sugar ever.

I'm not sure I know of that one. I'll have to look into that.
