Well it's happened again. I was told last night at a game of an incident that happened at the Ryle vs SK JV game a week ago. They said three parents from SK confronted the umpire after the game in the parking lot. If this is correct, what is being done to control parents???

 

You almost think if saying their names and using public humiliation is a way of curbing the problem. Just saying.

Probably the same parents who sat in their car parked in left center field and turned their brights on every time we were hitting.

NDA Volleyball Coach was harassed and physically assaulted in November by a father. It was not just one incident, this father's behavior escalated over the course of the season (emails, talking in the stands, phone calls and texts riling up other parents, screaming and gesturing from the stands and the eventual assault). NDA AD and Principal were aware and did nothing until the actual criminal event occurred. Up to then the other incidents were ignored. Only after the assault did they ban him. This guy not only abused the coaches but also the players that played more than his daughter. The coach pressed charges and won the criminal case in February.

 

Most coaches and refs are not aware that Kentucky statutes do protect all persons from harassment -

http://www.lrc.ky.gov/Statutes/statute.aspx?id=19926. It takes more coaches and refs to stand up to these idiots. I guarantee the father referenced above will think twice before ever speaking to a coach the way he did and definitely won't put his hands on one again.

 

I believe the coach in question is still considering a civil case against him and some others as well. This man's only complaint was playing time. For the record, NDA does hold parent meetings before each season. These things are all addressed. I don't think a Code of Conduct is signed but for some people none of that matters. This guy thought he was above the law and could do whatever he wanted. It took the coach standing up to him to show him he was wrong.

On another similar note.....

I heard about a sports banquet where the parent did not think the coach said enough about his kid. After the banquet and into the late evening, the parent kept calling so finally the coach picked up, only to have this parent go off on him about how he did not say enough about his kid when they were on stage. I was at the banquet. The coach recognized each player. But sometimes you just have more to say about certain players over others.

 

Parents---how about teaching your kid to be the kid that the coach can't stop talking about? Whether it's by their talents, their constant effort, their constant encouragement of their teammates., their coachability, their upbeat attitude, their hustle, etc.

Lots of ways your kid can make a difference and stand out on a team. Tell your kid to be that kid.

This is an interesting one here. With SK being in the 8th region I'm not sure if any action taken by Hellbird as 9th region field general would enforcable in this situation. Let me check with the KHSAA and I will report my findings at a later date.

Apparently I am wiser than you. You see, you do not see the difference in cursing and cussing up a storm as well as threatening an umpire than saying "he must be a Boone grad"

 

So because of that, you are right, I am the all knowing and wise one and you should take lessons from me.

 

Apparently you have taught your kids that cursing and acting like a 3 year old is perfectly good behavior at games. I would be more than happy to educate you on how to behave at games if you like.

 

I understand your argument ... but lets put a different thought to it ...

 

If you accused me of being a Boone Graduate ... the last thing you would have had to worry about .. is being thrown out of a game.

 

Is that a little strong? Of course. (But then again ... I throw up when I see soft blue to this day).

 

The point being is this ... what is the intent? Guess what ... no one really knows. Like I said .. if someone accused me of being a Boone grad ... well ... it is not going to go over well. We obviously differ in our opinion ... and who cares who is right. What were you trying to accomplish with that statement? (And by no means am I trying to say that you are a bad dude).

 

My guess ... is that the ump decided that you were symbolic of "making things personal". Most officials think in those terms (some don't, etc).

 

I think that the school, state and officials can man up .... and flat out spell out what gets a person booted ... and then hold the officiating to that standard as well as everyone else. I very much agree with the fact that good officials usually have the thickest skin.

 

As a parent or supporter--it is your job to support your team. Fans/parents who scream at officials/coaches/players during a game usually get the "in one ear and out the other" treatment.
